[upbeat music] Police in Eastern Nepal have raided a Christian-run college and arrested twenty-four South Korean nationals following a complaint about alleged illegal missionary activities.

The tourists were detained on 9 October during a theological gathering at the Nepal New Covenant College in the Morang District, near the Indian border.

Morang District Police Chief Kabir Katwal explained that the South Koreans violated tourist visa regulations and are now being held at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu for further investigation.

Christian leaders and rights activists strongly condemned the raid, calling it a blatant violation of religious freedom in the Hindu majority nation.
