Moral realism

Foreign policy, especially.

I think he was a moral realist.

you know, but I think the Christian worldview is a realist worldview because it's a worldview that says, yes, there are, you know, there are uplifting things about us as humans.

We're all made in God's image, entitled to rights, but we're all you know, broken, sinful people.

So he's talking about more, you know, like there's a moral imperative.

And then later on in the speech, he says, it'll be worthy of a free, enlightened, and at no distant period, a great nation to give to mankind the example of a of magnanimous people, something to that extent.

So, you know, I don't think he, he was like a non, an amoral realist, but I think he was a, a moral realist.

And so anyways, yeah.

We'll call that a goal.

So I want to talk about metaethics and moral realism.

Big surprise.

Weird.

This particularly coincided with some conversations about that topic with other folks that reminded me of a really common argument that comes up in the debate about moral realism that I wanted to drill down on a little bit.

because I don't think it works.

And I think this is a really good book for unpacking why it doesn't work.

So let me just remind you some quick refreshers here, first of all, especially since we have the time.
