Final question mark, probably maybe final living dead weekend.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:05
So, you know, Pittsburgh lore, of course, Dawn of the Dead, one of the famous zombie movies by George Romero was filmed at the Monroeville Mall.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:15
It's become kind of this shrine, this mecca for zombie fans.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:18
There's a living dead museum inside.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:21
But Monroeville Mall is probably going to be getting torn down next year.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:25
Walmart bought it.
Mallory FalkHOST
36:27
There has been plans to demolish it, but the timeline is a little bit unclear, all of which is to say this summer there was sort of this big to do about this annual convention that happens in the mall when zombie fans, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead fans like descend and celebrate and dress up, descend, rise from the grave, whatever, however you want to describe it.
Mallory FalkHOST
37:00
It's happening at the mall October 16th to 18th.
Joey NolfiHOST
44:22
And it's very depressing.
Joey NolfiHOST
44:24
Well, funny you say that because I live in Pittsburgh and there is a mall here, the Monroeville Mall.
Joey NolfiHOST
44:31
that where George Romero filmed Dawn of the Dead, the original Dawn of the Dead.
Joey NolfiHOST
44:37
And it's funny, you go and you look and you see the side-by-sides of what the mall looks like today and then what it was in the film of like this desolate kind of overtaken post-apocalyptic thing.
George SukaraGUEST
3:25
Crazy going to the mall.
George SukaraGUEST

And we went on the tour where you go behind the scenes and saw like the... like the the room where they had the like the control room where they got the keys and then you know fought a zombie and it was just i had been to the monroeville mall before it was remodeled in the early 2000s and i went to this living dead weekend a couple years ago and this time i brought my brother who is a make of effects artist now and like oh
ErikHOST

ErikHOST

You do look fantastic, George.
ErikHOST
12:29
Always, always looking fashionable.
ErikHOST
12:32
George was just telling me, Stephen, before you popped on, he recently visited the Monroeville Mall in Pittsburgh for the Days of Dead.
Stephen BissetteHOST
12:42
Yeah, because they're going to demolish the mall, right, George?
Ian Van GhoulHOST
44:15
Such a cool place to be.
Ian Van GhoulHOST
44:17
And the Monroeville Mall, obviously, which anyone who has not had a chance to go to the mall, do it because they are going to fucking knock it down next year.
Ian Van GhoulHOST
44:27
So unfortunately, so now's your chance.
Ian Van GhoulHOST
44:32
Go check it out.
GrizzHOST
29:52
Dude, insane.
GrizzHOST
29:53
Last year at fucking Monroeville Mall, me and our good buddy of ours, Chase, we were there setting up to do some vending, and across from us, and this other guy who's like an older, who just had some random fucking movie stuff, was this vhs tape sitting there nice for a price that was insane as far as a steel go to chase
MikeHOST
30:23
by it
GrizzHOST
30:23
so yeah he did
ButcherHOST
66:28
Right.
ButcherHOST
66:28
And we see that with just what recently happened with Monroeville Mall.
ButcherHOST
66:34
It fell victim to the entity that is Walmart.
Schizo the ClownHOST
66:39
Boo.
Tampa JayGUEST
35:49
Each year they have a Living Dead Weekend, which is a giant horror convention in tribute to Dawn of the Dead.
Tampa JayGUEST
35:56
Walmart has recently purchased of this mall and it's slated to become a one of their distribution centers so they're going to tear down an iconic piece of film history and not just me but thousands of other people specifically youtubers have made these videos and they're out there and hopefully they stay up there forever and because someday iconic sad iconic filming spots do disappear and it will disappear just like george a romero's was classic that's uh that's something that if you didn't know about that they're going to have one more living dead weekend at the monroeville mall coming up mid-october so if you haven't seen that they have the living dead museum in there too you might want to go take a look at that the museum will live on somewhere else but if you want to see the original location if you're a fan of all the zombie movies you might want to put that at the top of your list um i believe tickets are available it was a good plug for them good point

Back in those days, me and my friends used to go on weekend road trips to haunted locations.
Edward OctoberHOST
58:48
We took trips to the Bunny Man Bridge, the Happy Birthday House, the Monroeville Mall, and the Graveyard in Night of the Living Dead.
Edward OctoberHOST
58:56
My birthday's in late October, so the gang thought it'd be a guess to celebrate my 21st at one of the bars in Tarrytown, New York.
Edward OctoberHOST
59:05
Tarrytown, as you probably know, really plays up this Sleepy Hollow business for the tourists.
