That was the Queen Victoria Hospital then when it was one of the biggest hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere.

And then eventually in the 1980s, it merged with Monash Medical Centre.

So it grew to be a very, very influential hospital.

I imagine too, Iola, in those days when more female graduates would have been coming through medicine and also looking for work, that it would have been a great place to go and get a job as a woman doctor when the other hospitals didn't want to know about you.
