I know it's in the book, and I've read it, but it'd be nice to hear you delve into it.
M

Like, if you had told me in high school or, like, college that I'd be writing a book about magic, I would've assumed it was, like, a Hocus Pocus spinoff or something.

Mundane Magic ft. Molly Donlan

So on the topic of being a witch and which leads to witchcraft and magic, what is mundane magic? What does that mean to somebody who has never heard that term before?
M
10:47Molly DonlanGUEST
[chuckles] So mundane magic is essentially taking the chores and tasks that you already do every day and adding magic to them so that they become a little bit more witchy, and so maybe you actually want to do them.
M

Uh, so it's a great hack if you are neurodivergent or you struggle with executive functioning, uh, you struggle to get started or motivated on things, or if you just feel like your to-do list is 72 miles long and you never catch a break.
M
11:19Molly DonlanGUEST
It's one of those things where you can just sort of start to add these pockets of magic, these micro moments of magic into your day, and now your to-do list, yes, you still have to do all the things, and maybe you don't love folding laundry, but maybe you can find a breath of restoration in folding the laundry.
M

And we can do that through, you know, a whole variety of practices and spells, but I'll give you one example that I, I was doing earlier today, 'cause I wrote the book for me, [chuckles] 'cause I need it just as much as anyone else reading it.
M
12:01Molly DonlanGUEST
Uh, but I, I had a sink full of dishes when I woke up this morning and just really wanted to keep ... piling the dishes on.

Enchant Your Chores: Mundane Magic with Molly Donlan pt2
M
2:17Molly DonlanGUEST
The way that I talk about how Reiki works, how magic works, obviously there's nuanced differences between the two, but I think they can work...
M
2:26Molly DonlanGUEST
If we're speaking at a high level, I think both practices are really paths home to our authentic self, to who we really are, and they're also paths into the present moment.
M

If we're looking at, like, a scientific perspective, there's a through line in all of my work around the nervous system.
M
2:42Molly DonlanGUEST
That's really where, when I was a skeptic, I studied the nervous system and how it impacts trauma survivors, and then my entry into kind of this entire world was through a lot of Thich Nhat Hanh's work of bringing mindfulness into everyday aspects of life, seeing the through line between mindfulness and the nervous system, how we respond to stress.
