love Mojave 3.

Members of Slow Dive, who are the English shoegaze band, when they broke up for a long spell of time in the mid-90s, I think 95.

And then they formed a band called Mojave 3, which are very different from...

So Slow Dive is a shoegaze band, is like a formative shoegaze band, I will say.

And it is very shoegazy.

I can't remember for the life of me.

And it was really quite good.

I had to look up all of these ones because, yeah, these are super important albums to me.

The Mojave 3, which is way back from your day, just to name a few.

Okay, well, I'm going to have to start to listen to Spaceman 3 again because maybe it was me who loved Spaceman 3.

But in February, 1995, the band Slowdive released the album Pygmalion.

Now four years earlier in 1991 or so, they had been one of the most hyped young bands in Britain.

Now their music's become kind of stranger, quieter, more abstract, while at the same time, the British music industry is demanding these big songs, big personalities, obvious radio hits.

Their album Creation Records, who's a very important label that we'll talk about throughout this episode, drops them roughly a week after the album comes out.

Their audiences are filled with a lot of people that have never, like, were not even born.

when the band put out Souvlaki, you know, to say nothing of their other work, right? Their songs circulate on TikTok alongside brand new artists that are making music that's pretty directly inspired by them.

And a group that was once told by a journalist that its members would soon be stocking supermarket shelves, which is funny, had somehow become one of the more durable guitar bands of its generation as people look back and listen to British music of the 1990s.

And this is just kind of a miniature of what happened to the entire shoegaze movement.
