Yesterday,

Putin called Mohsen Rezaei directly.

Putin did not call, obviously, it's impossible to talk to the Supreme Leader for security reasons.

So he called a number two in the government, not a head of state.

This is one of them.

The statement comes after Mohsen Rezaei traveled to Russia and met President Putin.

for the first time ever.

They've never met before.

And I'm wondering, given that, Has it in any way, would it alter Iran's posture? Would it make it more emboldened, more resistant to take an even harder line or to push for more concessions if indeed it sees it as a victory?

I think the recent visit of General Mohsen Rezaei to Moscow and his direct talks with Vladimir Putin together with some intelligence officials of Russian military show that Iran has actually taken this to the table as a kind of achievement to Moscow.

And this maybe would increase Iran's leverage in the region, at the same time would trigger more support from the Russian side because, of course, the Russian war with Ukraine and the Iranian war with America matters significantly for both sides.

The answer is yes, Iran would take it as a kind of achievement to gain more, but at the same time, the politicians and the top decision makers in Iran really understand that this situation should get to an end.

Iran wants its conditions met before talks begin, while the United States wants the nuclear question on the table from the start.

Mohsen Rezai, the Iranian security official who has emerged as a central figure in the negotiations, repeated the point while visiting Moscow.

He said that until the United States carries out the seven conditions, Iran would neither open the Strait of Hormuz nor negotiate.

Rezaei met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin and said he delivered a message from Iran's supreme leader.

In the meantime, Iran says its ongoing diplomacy with the U.S. aims solely to secure the country's rights.

Secretary Mohsen Rezaei of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council says the Strait of Hormuz will not open and that no negotiations will be held with the U.S. unless Washington meets Tehran's conditions.

Rezaei also submitted a message from the Iranian Supreme Leader to Russian President Vladimir Putin during his meeting with Putin in Moscow.
