Our first request today goes to Andy Taylor who was asked to hear Honor Me by Salt who were a Swedish trio who were active between 1995 and 1997 releasing two albums and four singles but they had no success here in the UK Honor Me was their third single when it was released in 1996 and before Salt you heard Mesh and Lace the first track of the two from today's Featured John Peel session by Modern English Our next request is for William Barlow who has asked to hear the title track from the Twilight Singers 2006 album Powder Burns.

Greg Dully may have resurrected the Afghan Whigs who have a new album out now but the Twilight Singers have not been disbanded.

You know, they may have gone through that for a while.

But then, like, Modern English, Robbie Gray, the singer of Modern English, of course, the hit, the juggernaut, I'll Stop the World and Melt With You,

he

said there were years that they wouldn't play it, they didn't want to play it, they hated it.

And I try to give stuff a fair shake.

I mean, I'm surprised how many bands of this genre were still making music.

I was surprised to even find Modern English made a record, I think, four years ago, three or four years ago, that's really good.

I mean, it was under the radar, but it's got a bunch of good songs on it.

It was a team and they were already managing Lush and they also took on Moose.

They were connected with the 4AD scene because Ray, his brother was in Modern English and they were mates with Colourbox and all that kind of crew.

So it was all a bit sort of, you know, a bit of a... bit of a lovey scene but we so yeah we basically just hung out with them because they were you know we'd bump into them go to each other's gigs and because the manager would say oh do you want to see Lush tonight and say Mamoose so we ended up just becoming sort of you know not bosom buddies but you know drinking buddies yeah sure and so that's kind of you know but all of us formed completely independently there wasn't any kind of scene musically it was a friendship scene but you know none of us were like you know I suppose we all came from a similar musical heritage of what we were listening to as teens.

But other than that's all it was really as a sort of musical scene.

I'm talking about American English, the Beatles, the local guys.

And we haven't even talked about any of the concerts that we saw in 2025.

We did talk about one scene in Modern English when we did the totally tubular concert review.

So let's just skip over Modern English.

It's very simple.

But I remember watching the first season of Stranger Things and thinking it was so funny that Barb is getting abducted as, like, I Melt With You by Modern English, which was never a hit.

Yeah.

In fact, it was a bigger hit and not by that much when it was re-recorded after it was in a Burger King commercial in 1990.
