Mod revival

Mick Talbot was born in 1958.

Mod Revival keyboardist best known for co-founding the 1980s sophisticated pop duo The Style Council alongside the great, the incomparable Mr. Paul Weller.

Rory Lyons was born in 1959.

He was the drummer for the UK psychobilly band King Kurt.

We had UB40 and then we had, we must have had Quadrophenia then because what year was that actually? Do you know what, we're going to have a Google on that one and see what year it was actually released.

Because I think they all coincided with an actual mod revival.

It was, yeah.

Because I do remember potentially, I think, getting some sort of parka.

I just reminded Dream Boy then I needed to look up about Quadrophenia.

So it was released 1979.

And then I was sort of like asking the question, did it sort of like help with the mod revival? And just searching online it says it didn't actually start the mod revival but it acted as a massive cultural turbocharger that propelled the movement from underground into the mainstream.

And then they're calling it sort of like the synergy of 79.

Time to bring this show to a close, and I'm going to take you out with a bang, a real mod band.

This one is from an entirely new tribute album to the 1979 Mod Revival Sound.

Originally released on cassette a couple years back, it is now getting a right proper record release, courtesy of K Records.

It comes from a young man from the Chicago music scene whose power pop sound I've been digging for a while now.

I was born in 69, grew up in the UK.

The music that hit me, the music that really connected with me was very end of the 70s during the Mod Revival, which was the jam, madness.

The Who kind of had a resurgence during that period.

The Kinks.

We are going to turn the Wayback Machine to the early 80s and the beginnings of the mod revival in Washington, D.C., And to tell us the story, I am joined by a man who was there to see it all.

He was the lead vocalist for Modest Proposal and The Mondays later on.

A friend of the Modcast, Neil Augenstein.

cool, sort of from a punk perspective, but he was the first person to explain to me a little bit about the backstory.

And so I learned a little bit more about scooters.

I learned more about the long history of mod music and what was now in reflection, the beginning of the mod revival.

And so this was, you know, 79 that I first met Perry.
