Many of the cities of Moab that are mentioned here were confirmed on the Mesha Stella, also known as the Moabite stone, that was discovered in 1868 detailing the rule of King Mesha of Moab.

It confirms these biblical locations and events, but the Moabites and the Ammonites have not survived today.

It wasn't the glory days of the Philistines during the days of Ezekiel, but they have had a lasting impact on Israel, and I'd like to read to you from my Moody Commentary exactly how.

By the intertestamental period, which means the time between the Old and the New Testament, the Philistines were no longer a political entity.

They mention... five or six pharaohs, Ozorkon and Taharqa, Shishak, these sort of things, Shoshank.

So let's say a language like Moabite.

Moabite's quite similar to Hebrew, right? Okay.

Mm-hmm.

And in the Mesha Stele, a Moabite king, he also mentioned an Ophel in, in, uh, in Moab.

So, an Ophel, basically, today we call it the Acropolis.

Mm-hmm.

They'll be above and you'll be beneath.

So how did God judge ancient Israel when they sinned? He let the stranger come in, the Amalekite, Moabite, Edomite, Hittite, Termite, Parasite, Millerite, all the ites, right? And they got oppressed.

And in some places, as God said, I will send the enemy against you.

And then they would repent and God would raise up some courageous leaders and drive the enemy out.

He doesn't call it that, but it's essentially the Northern Kingdom.

And in his account, his god Chemosh empowered him to, and he uses actually the word herem, the Moabite cognate herem, the Hebrew word, to do this against his enemies.

And he lauds how victorious he was.

And he says like, you know, I destroyed all the people.

Despite the progressive Jews that hold twenty percent of Israel being non-Jewish as a point of pride, Jewish nationalists aren't exactly delighted at the large population they have as a quirk of the region that turns an entire quarter of Jerusalem into an Arab slum and might board a bus in Tel Aviv with a bomb or a machine gun.

They're not exactly happy about it, all right? I've spoken to some Jews that have joked about it, okay? But she says, "Unless they convert to Judaism, they can't be Jews with their unique claim to self-determination in the land and their unique political rights to a state of their own." Right, but you still recognize the difference between ethnic and religious Judaism, just as we might recognize someone who is an adopted member of our tribe, a friend to the British people, an Anglophile, or who is married in, like Ruth the Moabite did to the Israelites.

And of course, you know, she was the grandmother of King David.

So her descendants can still be within the line of the kings of Israel and, and end up with Jesus Christ himself, who I know that we have a bit of a disagreement about.

But she's never Ruth the Israelite.

She's still Ruth the Moabite.

And so someone can live in Britain who is not of British ancestry.

We're not looking to have some sort of like one hundred percent purity bloodline, you know, quota or anything here.
