Mo Udall

We've got the concept for a truly unified party.

The convention ended late Monday night with a keynote address which Congressman Morris Udall of Arizona delivered, and he talked about party unity.

I suggest the road to follow is the path of forgiveness and magnanimity and the path of Democrats pulling together, putting our differences behind us for the sake of a better country.

If we're going to have some fights this week, so be it.

And together, those three with their teams did a lot of protections for landscapes across the country.

Probably our best Secretary of Interior going back to Mo Udall probably.

Yeah, right.

He's in that upper league of these people.

You know what John McCain used to say about Arizona? Arizona is the only state where mothers can't grow up telling you.

can't raise their children telling them that someday they can be president of the United States because there's a long string of losing candidates, Mo Udall and McCain himself.

The Battle of the BYU Grads, as Tomko put it, is just the latest iteration of the impact of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Arizona politics, though.

In reality, the history of politics in this state is filled with LDS figures, from Arizona Congressman Mo Udall and Governor Evan Mecham to Congressman Matt Salmon, Senator Jeff Flake.

State Senate presidents Rusty Bowers, Russell Pierce, and currently Warren Peterson.

And the list could go on.

The Udall family's legacy in Arizona politics alone goes back to territorial days.

The state itself is built around an aspect of LDS culture that's woven into our politics, into our Native American relationships.

It's just impossible to miss.

Amen.

And you and I remember when Mo Udall and John McCain, or Barry Goldwater, did the CAP, and when Arizona was much more collegial, and I suppose the country was too.

And may we get back there.

It would be a wonderful thing if we could.
