has a different dissonance to the metallica song that comes from this idea of a blue note so let me play you let me kind of explain where i'm coming from with this this is i believe i'll dust my broom by the delta blues man robert johnson so this recording is is made in 1936 but the idea of a blue note and the idea of this kind of delta blues like think the mississippi river delta southern united states goes back way before anybody was recording this probably late 1800s early 20th century so take a listen what the blue note is is him being a little flat on purpose okay to be just crunchy

It's awesome.

So one, What does the storytelling look like? What does the folk instrumentation look like? So banjos, guitars, fiddles, accordions, all of those feel very rootsy to us.

And the third aspect is just really centering ourselves in where we believe our music originated, which is out of this ancestral region along the Mississippi River Delta.

Beyond the performances, Black Americana Fest includes opportunities for storytelling and conversation and community.

Tell us about these events.

Oh, you mean Kazakastan.

He'd point to the Mississippi River Delta down in Louisiana.

[laughs] So here's what's gonna happen.

From now on, he is always going to say Kazakhstan

Uh, the average wages i-in Richland Parish were roughly thirty-six, thirty-eight thousand dollars a year prior to this investment.

So, um, the data center went to a place in Louisiana, you know, Mississippi Delta Parish, that was Mississippi River Delta, obviously.

It was, it was longing for this opportunity, and we got ahead of that.

And I think we got ahead of that very wisely in the way we, um, addressed both the concerns, the impact on the community, um, the good impact on the community a-and the natural resources and all the things we're hearing, right? Uh, we hear-

And so I got to run these awesome campaigns from a sportsman's perspective at National Wildlife Federation.

The last one I was a part of was to restore the Mississippi River Delta.

I know you've been down to Louisiana.

I know you know the plight down there.

So, so, you know, there's different areas in Louisiana.

If, if you get into the Delta region, which is along the Mississippi River delta, you can get into some, some really good deer.

You know, some upper 120s to 150s.

And, and, uh, but you gotta be on managed, good managed land or just, uh...

And, you know, there are a couple of reasons for it.

But the main one is that the land is sinking very rapidly, which is not uncommon in big deltas like the Mississippi Delta.

But yeah, this region, that's a really big thing.

And that's why... yeah sea level rise here is a bigger problem than almost anywhere else in the world

And, perhaps counter-intuitively, a beaver-created wetland protects against floods.

The loss of wetlands in places like the Mississippi River Delta is one of the reasons that that area has been vulnerable to hurricanes and storm surges.

Denise Birchstead says that beaver-engineered wetlands protect habitats inland, too.

So this area, what we're looking at here to a hydrologist who cares a lot about floods, this is flood storage.
