Missandei

It's only slightly odd not to see Jon Snow being outside and not covered in snow.

So Jon Snow is met on the shores of Dragonstone by Tyrion, Missandei, and the Dothraki.

And it's a pretty friendly greeting between Jon Snow and Tyrion, of course Jon is expected to set aside his weapons and offer them up to the Dothraki because obviously Daenerys wouldn't allow the Starks to bring weapons considering the history between the Targaryens and the Starks.

It was interesting to see Davos remark about how things have changed at Dragonstone since he was last there because he did It's been quite a long time on Dragonstone with Stannis, in case you don't remember.

We also get the Melisandre scene from the trailer.

And what I liked about this scene was that Missandei corrects Daenerys and she says, actually, prince that was promised could also mean prince or princess because Valyrian is gender neutral.

And Melisandre basically tells Daenerys what we knew she was going to tell her, which is that she needs to basically hook up with Jon because she needs Jon to fight the Great War, which is to come.

So Tyrion vouches for Jon Snow because he knew Jon Snow back in season one, and Daenerys is like, okay, he can come, but she makes it clear that he must bend the knee.

Um, but she's ruminating on the loneliness of gods, because she feels like a god at the very top of this pyramid looking down over everyone, and she's alone, and she's thinking about, you know, religious things.

But then, uh, Missandei comes in and is like, hey, I'm Missandei, you wanna talk about Noth a little bit? We learned some fun facts about Noth.

And then Dany is like, okay, well, there are people wanting to speak with me.

They're wanting to speak with me in the throne room, which she has had redesigned.

Did I get it?

Yeah, I think that one's a little open to interpretation.

Missandei, Missandei.

Missandei.

Mm-hmm

... uh, is spending time with her friend, who is also a formerly enslaved woman that she liberated, Missandei-

Mm-hmm

... who, um, is Black and who has large, I would say like 4C curl hair.

Okay.

Uh, and Daenerys is doing Missandei's hair.

And my jaw was just on the floor.

I have read and watched so much media, and I had n- I really, I asked everybody I knew, like, "Can you think of any 19th century story where a white woman does a Black woman's hair?" I couldn't think about.

Right.

So poor Missandei is just trying to read to him, giving him milk of the poppier water when he can take it, listening to whatever words he can muster.

I wonder if he said anything interesting, but unfortunately, knowing Quentin, he probably

didn't.

And it gets worse for her.

And then Cersei's forces ambush her fleet, killing a second dragon, Rhaegal, and capturing and beheading Daenerys' closest friend and confidant, Missandei, right in front of her.

She realizes that the people of Westeros don't view her as a liberator.

They view her as a foreign invader.
