Mischa Auer

... for someone to get four acting nominations in four different categories.

Alice Brady, who plays the, uh, ditzy mother who sees pixies when she has a hangover, was nominated for Supporting Actress, and Mischa Auer, who plays her protege, uh, a, a sometime pianist and full-time freeloader-

Yeah

... uh, was nominated for Supporting Actor.

Um, this may be her most iconic performance, although she did win the Oscar for something else.

Right.

Uh, Mischa Auer, uh, I will always remember him playing a very sim- similar character, the ballet master freeloader in You Can't Take It with You.

Yeah.

There were Hollywood stars who became informers.

And Misha Auer was one of them.

Um, one of the thing, a couple of the things, Elia Kazan was an informer and was much loathed afterwards.

Dalton Trumbo was denied, uh, the Oscar in 1953 for Roman Holiday because he'd written it under a front.

That's, like, all-time awesome.

And, by the way, as it goes on, I hate to say it, but Martha Ray and Misha Auer pretty much carry this thing.

Yeah.

Really, as it goes on.

That's what Olsen and Johnson are doing in this film.

They preside over the lunacy.

They surround themselves with the gags and the musical numbers and, you know, Ray and Misha Auer and Hugh Herbert.

But they just sort of preside over the whole thing.

Hijinks, high hilarity, and wonderful songs ensue as the sisters let nothing and no one stand in their way to break up the romance and bring their father home.

Featuring a stellar cast that also includes Charles Winninger, Benny Barnes, Alice Brady, Ray Milland, very young, and Mischa Auer, the film made Deanna Durbin a household name and endeared her to millions of moviegoing fans.

Uh, bonus features include 100 Years of Universal, the Carl Laemmle Era, and 100 Years of Universal, the Lou Wasserman Era, little, uh, featurettes, um, so that's very cool.

Uh, but yeah, uh, definitely a fun, uh, example of what William Bodine can do.

And even when he's being a jerk like he is in this, it's still interesting to see.

And I love Misha Auer as the flamboyant photographer who gets so upset and the spits multiple times.

It's just...

He's adorable and funny.
