Milton Glaser

Yeah, so late 60s.

Um, the, the very next thing I did, uh, after that, I, I quit that job, but then, uh, Milton Glaser had called up Ed Bengat and was looking for somebody to help him out with, with this thing that he wanted to do.

And what, what it was, was that he had designed a poster for the Love and Spoonful and the text in that, uh, In that poster that he did, he designed the letters, but just for the words that were used.

I think it just said the love and spoonful.

And so Ed told him he should call Michael.

He just left his job here, and he's going to do something else.

So Milton Glaser called me, and I went over.

And so I worked there at Pushpin for several weeks working on that project for him, which was Wow, what an experience.

And it's like, you know, if you're going to do something, You do it right.

Like Milton Glaser once said, there are three answers.

There are three.

You either get yes, no, or wow.

I'm not, I'm not someone who ever has the patience to do any of that, but I really respect the devotion and the dedication that that community puts into their outfits and their beautiful outfits in the end.

Yeah.

Well, as Milton Glaser also said, art is work.

Art is work.

I thought about hiring a famous designer.

There's a guy named Milton Glaser who was very famous across the design world who had really, in a book of his, tutored me on what graphic design even was.

But I was scared to call Milton.

I thought he would charge us more money than we had.

The murals take days, so there is no rush.

I walked over to the Pavarotti Music Center in the afternoon to see what the OFF program looked like and found a small exhibition of Milton Glaser's posters that runs until the end of the month.

Glazer designed the I Love New York logo, which is a strange thing to find here, but his work fits.

Mostar has always borrowed and remade things from everywhere.

There's also an OFF program running until the end of the month, with exhibitions at the Pavarotti Music Center and something called Reconnect.

I read about a Milton Glaser show at the university's Museum of Modern Art, which sounds interesting, though I'll have to loop back to the news to confirm the details.

And then, of course, there's the Jazz Fest starting on Sunday, free open-air concerts on the plateau at Hrvatskog Doma Herseges Japana Kozes.

I've already circled that in my calendar.

Um, uh, I did it f- we did it for a, a dog food company, but it was illustrated by Milton Glaser, who was one of the all-time-

... world-renowned illustrators.

And also, in flag news, I love borough flags, Staten Island got its first official flag, the third official flag, although all five boroughs have flags.

A unanimous city council vote codified what had been the borough's unofficial flag for the last decade, designed by a protege of Milton Glaser and featuring a helmeted woman bearing both sword and shield, looking out at Henry Hudson's ship and three, perhaps, oystermen.

It replaced a earlier flag that many people thought looked like the Staten Island dump.
