But the main attraction of Dil Chahta Hai beyond Goa, beyond India, was actually Australia and all these iconic Sydney scenes that were filmed here.

Every morning that I come to work and I'm at Milson's Point, I'm just like, oh my God, should I be sad about my dates? Like Aamir Khan sitting on the bench with that like really nice view.

You know, a girl can dream.

I have with me Anupam Sharma, who made all these iconic scenes happen with his production company back in 1999, when India and Australia collaborations were rare.

Talk me through some of the initial days and maybe some of the scenes that are most entrenched in our memories as a viewer.

For example, I mentioned Milson's Point and that's the route I take every day.

And almost every day I think of that shot.

So we had to wait at Olympic Park for the next train, back to Lickham, back to Lickham, get to Lickham.

and of course the platform's a lot emptier now at this point at least and then catch the train to Central and then from Central I catch the train to Wynyard which is the next station along the way from Milsons Point which is where I'm heading now and usually from Wynyard I'll catch a bus home at that time of night but I noticed that the from the schedules last buses had gone there was one more bus I could get which is the 100 usually I'm looking at catching the 182 or a 180, I think.

But this was a 100, which goes to Taronga Zoo, now Baizu.

It's the one last bus of the night, the Taronga Zoo.

My dad is and was a photographer as well.

So I spent a lot of my childhood or any sick day I could in his studio in Milsons Point.

So I feel like even though I didn't really know at that stage, it was very within me.

And then I was living in Byron Bay and I decided to study film.

Transport workers were on strike and the rail network had stopped.

So on the 9th of June, a cold Saturday in the middle of winter, Luna Park at Milsons Point was quieter than a Saturday night had any right to be.

The queues were short, and staff who had worked there for years would later recall the emptiness of that evening.

And in some way they would be grateful for that fact.

So I do have, it's not really a fun story, but I do have a story to share about gay conversion therapy.

So there has been a revelation in my family that my mum was tricked into sending my older sister to a light conversion therapy camp that was in Milsons Point back in 2001, maybe 2002.

Yeah.

And how this came about was, I remember my older sister telling me this story when I was younger about how she got to do a camp with the Mormon church, because my mum's side of the family was like weirdly Mormon for a while.

And it was in Milsons Point and they got to like play tennis and go swimming and everything.

And the way that my older sister described it made it seem really fun.

And then we were talking about...

You used to actually go out to Leichhardt.

So you'd go, oh gosh, you'd start at Milsons Point.

You'd go through North Sydney over the bridge.

You'd do the Botanical Gardens and then you'd get out to Leichhardt.
