Miles Smiles

Whoa.

Um, and the cool thing for me was it was not Sketches of Spain or Miles Smiles.

It was Pangea, so one of the, the more experimental albums of Miles.

And, um, my brother said, "Al, I, I don't understand this.

Thankfully, he started a relationship with actress Cicely Tyson, which lasted for decades, including their marriage from 1981 to 1989, but not without its bumps, of course, because, well, miles.

In the mid to late 1960s, Miles experimented with not using time signatures in his music, and the result were albums like 1966's Miles' Smiles and 1968's Miles in the Sky.

This period, from 1968 to 1975, was known as Miles' Electric Era.

In 1969, Davis wanted to bring his music to a new generation who had grown up with Motown and James Brown at that time.

And that's music by the second great Miles Davis quintet.

That is music from the 1966 album, Miles Smiles.

And the name of the cut is entitled Dolores.

It features Miles Davis on trumpet.

But that was...

So in, in 1979, the, the most, the four records I listened to over and over and over and over again was, uh, Miles Davis' records Nefertiti and Miles Smiles, because my roommate, uh, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, had those two.

And then there was a Lester Young compilation that I stole from my dad when I went to Boston called Lester Swings.

And, uh, Coltrane.
