Just four minutes in, August Aydin put them ahead with a strike from outside the box.

assisted by Milan Skriniar, and their lead was doubled.

By minute 11, Mason Greenwood found the back of the net, following an assist from Neil Sincinita.

Fenerbahce held a two-goal advantage before 15 minutes had even passed, but Slavia Prague responded.
Nima TavallaeyHOST

He was at the peak of his powers when Inter bought him, and it was Stefan de Vrij.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
10:06
Every other defender, whether it's Acerbi or Škriniar or Bastoni, they were up and coming, or they had passed their best, or they were coming down and still had quality to give.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
10:18
Now, that is also an issue.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
10:22
Whilst in midfield in attack, Inter have managed to buy players that were in the peak of their powers or becau- or, or, or just about going up there.
Dotun AdebayoHOST
29:16
Whilst I know that isn't geriatric in footballing terms, but when you have a team and key players that have dominated the team who are in their 30s, does that make a difference? Is that an excuse maybe for the 6-0 battering at Villa Park?
Lars SivertsenGUEST
29:32
I don't feel like it is because I feel like one of the things like there's enough pedigree like Nathan Ake and Milan Skriniar has really experienced center half pairing but they're not geriatrics like they're not in the late 30s and they're flanked by two really athletic fullbacks in Semedo and Brown and you've got an experienced elite level goalkeeper behind them that should be a defensive unit that should be solid enough that you can go on away games, maybe not against the likes of Barcelona and Bayern and stuff, but against good, solid European teams like Aston Villa and not get humiliated.
Lars SivertsenGUEST
30:04
And I do wonder if there's something systemic about the way football is played in the Turkish league.
Lars SivertsenGUEST
30:10
I mean, one of the reasons it's, it's a lot, it's a very fun league to watch.
Andy BrassellHOST
33:22
But I don't know if it was that, you know.
Andy BrassellHOST
33:24
I think...
Andy BrassellHOST
33:26
I just look at the fact that some of the players that they've bet big on and Skriniar, who is still a very good on-ball defender, but...
Andy BrassellHOST
33:38
I mean, Nicholas Jackson had him on toast.

Mm.
Dan BardellHOST

Lukaku, Kanté, Ederson, Aké, uh, Skieniar, Skriniar even.
Dan BardellHOST
4:14
They've got loads of ex-pro...
Dan BardellHOST

Guendouzi.
Jakey MarinerHOST

Just having a look at Fenerbahçe's line-up, and to be quite honest, like [laughs] it, it's, it's not a g- lineup to absolutely sneeze at.
Jakey MarinerHOST
2:15
I mean, you got Mason Greenwood, you've got, uh, Guendouzi, you've got Nathan Aké, Skriniar, Semedo, Ederson.
Jakey MarinerHOST
2:23
You know, these are, these are Premier League quality footballers.
Noah FisherHOST
2:27
Yeah, I know.
Neil DunworthGUEST

We had, the only person who was really able to do that outside of Buendia really was Morgan Rogers, and if you get your striker doing that, it gives you this a- added extra because if he can start to score goals from outside the box and then get goals from inside the box, and then is able to run off the, off the shoulder, you know, people start having the game plan for you very, very quickly then as a striker.
Neil DunworthGUEST
7:40
And as you said, even though it is a lonely furrow up top, you know, Nathan Aké is no mug, Skriniar is no mug.
Ty BraceyHOST
7:46
Yeah, yeah, agreed.
Neil DunworthGUEST
7:46
They found it a to- they found it a tough going tonight and, and unfortunately for Archie Brown in one way, being a Birmingham boy, he didn't have a good game at all tonight at left back at all.

Neil DunworthGUEST
28:08
McGinn is dreadful-
Ty BraceyHOST
28:09
Yeah
Neil DunworthGUEST
28:09
... at defending the back post, and it was McGinn and Cash got caught with Veretout and Mariqui, and, and Skriniar, I think it was, on the back post from a short corner.
Neil DunworthGUEST
28:17
Everybody came out.
NeilHOST
12:23
This guy, Fenerbahce are going with Ederson and goals.
NeilHOST
12:26
Semedo, Skriniar, Ake and Brown, exactly as you would have thought.
NeilHOST
12:30
Guendouzi and Ismail.
NeilHOST
12:31
Jokic, I think it is in there, in the five and six there in the two pivots.
NeilHOST
7:01
I, I think from the very off there was pace, there was power, there was energy, there was want, there was, there was that home team domination that you see big clubs play with, and Aston Villa are a big club, and we did it tonight, you know? We, we played with our prey in, uh, for, just before the first goal.
NeilHOST
7:21
Then, like, the first goal was coming, and after that then, yes, there was one shot, or there was one, uh, corner that went to the back post, um, they went short with it, and then people came out and they whipped it into the back post, and Muriqi and some other, and Skriniar, I think, were the two guys at the back post.
NeilHOST
7:36
Mack and McGinn and Cash, which was a complete and utter mismatch.
NeilHOST
7:39
And I've said it for years that Aston Villa wing it when it gets to the back post.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
11:14
De Vrij was probably the last one.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
11:16
Skriniar became a star at Inter.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
11:18
De Vrij was already an established Serie A defender, quality Serie A defender when he joined Inter.
Nima TavallaeyHOST
11:23
But since then, Inter have, have bought players that, that are either g- up and coming, will become good, or are past their best and on their way down to give some st- stability to that defense.
