Mikulov

Herdan was a Brno-born manager at the Škoda Works, one of the major industrial companies of interwar Czechoslovakia.

He married Johana Telčerová, the daughter of Eugen and Elsa Telčer, a Jewish family from Mikulov.

Eugen Telcher was an important member of the Jewish community there and one of the founders of the Jewish Museum in Mikulov.

The family later moved to Brno and bought the house where the apartment was located.

that was what, a six, eight hour drive? Basically, you're in Switzerland, you're going way east, all the way to the Czech Republic.

So he basically spent a long time traveling away from Zurich, as far away as he possibly could get.

of little towns and villages across the Czech countryside that are stunning and beautiful, and they each have their own, you know, interesting history and local character and food specialties, and never, never see a fellow American tourist there.

And the place you're mentioning is Mikulov, which is a wine town just right close to the border in southeastern Czech Republic.

The town itself is pristine and beautiful.

I was there on the weekend of a big wine festival, so they had all these Tents and stands set up through the cobbled core where local vintners were giving out tastes of their wines.

Czech Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar from the ANO party and his Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner have called for stronger protection of both the EU's external borders and their countries' shared border.

Meeting at the Czech-Austrian Police Cooperation Centre near Mikulov in South Moravia on Friday, the ministers discussed illegal migration, people smuggling and EU migration policy.

They also praised the center, which has facilitated cross-border police cooperation since 2006.

Austria introduced controls on its border with Czechia in 2023 and extended them again in June, while shifting towards more flexible Czechs aimed primarily at smugglers and criminals.
