Sam QuerreyHOST
5:47
It's a tough look.
Sam QuerreyHOST
5:48
I think one of the other big storylines in Albany was Mikhail Kukushkin, our wild card into the hottie bracket a couple years ago.
Sam QuerreyHOST
5:56
His last event, he won his first round, then went out to Tsitsipas.
Sam QuerreyHOST
6:00
Kukushkin was tricky, though, all those years.
Sam QuerreyHOST
6:02
We played him.
Sam QuerreyHOST
6:03
Couldn't stand playing that guy.
Sam QuerreyHOST
6:04
Couldn't stand playing him.
Sam QuerreyHOST
6:06
He lost to Tsitsipas, and afterwards Tsitsipas... put a shirt out and had Kukushkin sign the shirt like soccer players after this great career.
Catherine WhitakerHOST
68:00
I think he does pull that off.
Catherine WhitakerHOST
68:05
We had the retirement of Mikhail Kukushkin this week.
Catherine WhitakerHOST
68:08
You're a Kukushkin guy.
Catherine WhitakerHOST
68:09
Sure.
Charlie EccleshareGUEST
68:10
Struggling.
Charlie EccleshareGUEST
68:10
The only thing I can ever remember about him is one year covering the Eastbourne tournament and John Inverdale coming in and saying how he'd been out the night before and seen Michael Kukushkin eating dinner on his own and he'd gone and chatted to him and what a lovely man Mikhail Kukushkin was.
Charlie EccleshareGUEST
68:27
That's it for Kukushkin tales or takes, but good luck to him.
Charlie EccleshareGUEST
68:31
Have a good retirement.
John SilkHOST
69:25
Who was it? Goffin and someone else.
Brenner MortonHOST
69:28
Kukushkin.
John SilkHOST
69:29
Yeah, yeah, who bowed out in Almaty.
John SilkHOST
69:31
Yeah, good old Kukushkin.
John SilkHOST
69:32
I saw him, I'm going to say, make the semis in Porto just two years ago.
John SilkHOST
69:37
And the tennis still seemed to be very much there at that point.
Scott ReichelHOST
23:23
He beat him in three.
Scott ReichelHOST
23:24
Kukushkin is about to retire, so I was kind of shocked that he actually won a match in this event.
Scott ReichelHOST
23:29
Tsitsipas beat him, and he beat Duckworth, who I think is very good.
Scott ReichelHOST
23:33
So it's been a very, very easy draw for Tsitsipas so far.
Scott ReichelHOST
21:23
He beat him in three.
Scott ReichelHOST
21:24
Kukushkin is about to retire, so I was kind of shocked that he actually won a match in this event.
Scott ReichelHOST
21:30
Tsitsipas beat him.
Scott ReichelHOST
21:31
And to beat Duckworth, who I think is very good.
Alex GruskinHOST
32:23
Shout out 2021.
Alex GruskinHOST
32:25
Again, Kukushkin in what I believe is his final event, 6-6 of the qualifier.
Alex GruskinHOST
32:30
Seco Lardis, he'll now take on Stefano Tsitsipas.
Alex GruskinHOST
32:32
Could be his last match.
Alex GruskinHOST
38:47
You want to see some beautiful forehands, some one-handed backhands? That's the one for you.
Alex GruskinHOST
38:53
We learned Kukushkin.
Alex GruskinHOST
38:54
I think this might be his last event, obviously, to play in Kazakhstan.
Alex GruskinHOST
38:57
Someone who's represented Kazakhstan for as long as he has.
LukeHOST
6:50
So interesting to see what he can do for the rest of this year and whether he can kind of bring some momentum into the start of next season.
LukeHOST
6:59
Yeah, so since past place Kovacevic, Mikhail Kukushkin is playing his last ATP event.
LukeHOST
7:05
Kazakh tennis legend, been in the top 50, great player.
LukeHOST
7:10
He's currently a set all, I believe, with Sake Redis.
Kevin LawlerHOST
9:42
Basically, we have Davi Goffin, the Belgian, who I have extremely fond memories of as a player, really enjoyed watching him, nice person, always enjoyed his game.
Kevin LawlerHOST
9:52
Davy Goffin is retiring and he's bowing out at home in Brussels in the European Open we'll see in the draw in a couple of minutes time and then in Almaty you have I believe it was a wild card for Mikhail Kukushkin and Mikhail Kukushkin correct me if I'm wrong anybody in the comments but I'm pretty sure that Mikhail Kukushkin was the trailblazer moving across from Russian tennis to Kazakh tennis and one of the first ones paving the way there along with Andrei Golubev and a few others at the time and obviously like the most famous and the most successful there of all of those to come across was Elena Rybakina and actually I had some people I did another reel earlier last week I'm still making the effort as you can tell with the reels even in this kind of down part of the season but I did a reel about you know Zheng Chen Wen versus Alex Ayala who's the bigger superstar and obviously I'm trying to get a little bit of it's a little bit of baiting and it's a little bit of trying to get people to just comment because obviously Zheng Chen Wen has a much higher ceiling than Alex Ayala but Ayala in a sponsor sense I guess you know she's a massive superstar as well and she has the whole of the Philippines behind her and that's literally a whole country behind her you could argue the same for Zheng Chen Wen with China but I had people in the comments I was basically saying who's the biggest star in Asia out of those two and I had some people in the comments saying obviously the biggest tennis star in Asia is Elena Rybakina and I'm like it's fucking not like she's the best female tennis player yeah but like So is she Asian? She's not to me.
Kevin LawlerHOST
11:17
Like sorry I'm not having it.
Kevin LawlerHOST
11:19
She was born in Moscow.

35 MINS LATER

Kevin LawlerHOST
45:52
I just feel like he has a pep in his step at the moment, which is not something I expected, to be honest.
Kevin LawlerHOST
45:57
I thought his career was basically done.
Kevin LawlerHOST
45:59
Mikhail Kukushkin is down here, Miomar Kesmanovic and Luciano Darderi.
Kevin LawlerHOST
46:04
So Darderi, I guess, is interesting enough.
Nigel SeeleyHOST
11:13
Basasvili, who opens up against Marian Cilic.
Nigel SeeleyHOST
11:15
And in the bottom draw section, it's Sitsapas and Darderi in, again, what looks a fairly comfortable kind of section with Kukushkin in there as well, I suppose.
Nigel SeeleyHOST
11:25
He's probably passed his tailpipe, I suppose, and Kekmanovic.
Nigel SeeleyHOST
11:30
But Q2 and Q4, to me, the weakest parts of the draw.
