Today in 1945, Mike the Headless Chicken survived a pre-meal beheading, and he lived another year and a half without a head.

A chicken had its head cut off, and this is a true story.

That feels like it's going to be tough to take down.

Question is, why do they hold this festival? Well, believe it or not, Mike the rooster lived without a head for 18 months.

He was often called Mike the headless chicken.

What happened here? Well, the date was September 10, 1945, when farmer Lloyd Olson selected a young rooster for dinner and chopped off its head with an axe.

But he kind of missed and the blow did not remove all of the structures essential for survival.

Actually, it, it was in a hotel room because he was taken there to be exhibited.

Uh, the usual account is that he choked during the night, and, uh, also the farmer did not have the syringe or eyedropper equipment he normally used to clear m- mucus from Mike's throat.

Anyway, the town of Fruita still celebrates him with a Mike the Headless Chicken Festival, and he has become one of Colorado's strangest historical celebrities.

There's even a, a metal statue of the headless rooster in the town center.

Like that chicken, which I didn't include in this, which I will be doing a part two because there are actually so many cases.
