Mike Newton

So am I the asshole for like trying to stick this out and hoping that she makes a better choice? Okay.

Mike Newton.

You know, I almost did him.

I thought about it.

That's really.

Michael Welch, who plays Mike Newton, he's in Star Trek Insurrection, Z Nation, 13 episodes, Two Guys and a Girl, three episodes of that.

I just thought I'd pop that in.

And the last thing that I know him from, this is the finger-clicking moment for me, he's in a single episode of Stargate SG-1 where he plays a young Jack O'Neill, and I'm like, it's that guy.

But the movie just decided to do away with the Ben character completely and just give Eric Ben's girl instead.

And not long after that, while Bella is in PE, she immediately meets Mike Newton, played by actor Michael Welch, as well as popular girl Jessica Stanley, played by Anna Kendrick.

And much like in the case of Eric, Jessica Stanley in this movie also sort of absorbs the personality and roles of another absent Twilight book character named Lauren Mallory, who was just another pretty rich girl at the school who was jealous of Bella and all the attention that she gets when she arrives.

Definitely a good idea to eliminate that character completely, because the last thing that this movie needed was two Jessicas.

But speaking of Jessica and Mike, the role of Jessica almost went to Mae Whitman, while the role of Mike Newton almost went to actor Michael Cera, two actors that have previously worked together on the Arrested Development TV show.

And even though they did not get a chance to reunite for this film, the two of them would end up going head-to-head with one another in 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs. the World film, a movie that we broke down here on Heavy Spoilers a little while ago.

Mae Whitman played evil ex number four, Roxy Richter, while battling against Michael Cera's Scott Pilgrim.

Later on, while Bella eats lunch in the cafeteria with Jessica, Mike, and Eric, they are joined by Angela Weber, played by actress Christian Serratos, known for playing roles such as Suzy Crabgrass in Nickelodeon's Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide, as well as Rosita Espinosa in season four of The Walking Dead.
