[laughs]

So I was the attorney against Siegfried & Roy about 15 years ago, and, uh, I got burned to cris- to a crisp in that, um, proceeding.

And it left me depressed for a couple of years, and then I decided to turn it around, write everything down.

And the more I analyzed what had happened in Las Vegas in this court proceeding, the more I had to laugh at myself and what a babe in the woods I was, that I didn't understand how Las Vegas justice works.

It's still the Wild West.

It's hometown justice.

So that's how it turned into a comedy.

What changes or, or have been made to the show or what can audiences expect this time around from Shangri-La La?

What a fascinating theme, I guess, for a documentary, right? Mm-hmm.

No, and it's something we sort of stumbled into as narrative filmmakers.

So about 10...

Oh, God, no, longer than that, 2011, I was making a narrative feature... and we needed a cave set and we didn't have any options for it.

And someone who was an extra for us said, hey, I work at a haunted house and we have a room that's a cavern, you know, but it's made out of spray foam and wood and is indoors and has bathrooms.

And I was like, oh, this sounds perfect.

And that was sort of our intro to that whole world.

What kind of what was the experience like of making a documentary and what kind of things did you discover about all the attractions and

Where, where do you see him fitting in now with this, with this blues team?

He's he's an interesting one.

He's an interesting one because I know a lot of players and I get it.

Like if you are just simply looking over at elite prospects, hockey reference, you know, and you're just looking at the score sheet, it doesn't look appealing.

It doesn't look appealing.

A lot of minuses, not a lot of high upside here so far for a player who has who was previously drafted third overall.

You know, but this is a big, big, young power forward in the NHL who still needs to work on his speed, still needs to work on his agility, still needs to work on on just growing into that man strength.

And I think the blues front office said, okay, Hey, let's, let's go for a, let's go for a push next year, make a few changes and see what we could do with some young, young talent.

And I'd like to bounce back over to Mike, and I'd love to know what inspired you to want to create this work.

It started out as a drama, because I got burned to a crisp.

I was quite frustrated for several years.

But then I said, I got to turn this around.

First of all, I got to find out what really happened.

How could it be that our case was so destroyed? And it's something that's called hometown justice.

I didn't know it at the time.

If the Canaries are going to go on another deep run this year.

Yeah.

So, you know, we've had to kind of rebuild our roster over the last three years.

We've had, you know, pretty much the same roster.

So this year was, uh, not a total rebuild, but it was definitely a reload.

Um, You know, last year at the 30-game mark, we hit 55 homers.

This year we hit 25.

Whether or not their stats are there yet, are there a couple names that come to mind as the next big-time players for the Canaries that are just getting their feet under them in Sioux Falls?

Mike Meyer, why don't you tell us a little bit about what Shangri-Lala, a comedy musical about Siegfried and Roy is all about?

Shangri-Lala is based on my real life collision with Siegfried and Roy.

Let me set that aside.

I was depressed for years thereafter, and then I decided to turn it around.

I wrote it down, and the more I looked at it, the more I had to laugh at myself, what I got myself into, not understanding how justice works in the Wild West.

Mike, what about you? Who are you hoping to have access to your show?

But yeah, what do you think about, like, the, uh, takeaways from the, the games, the series themself?

Defense.

Defense, plain and simple here for this team was the reason why that they pushed as far as what they did.

Before game nine, before that eight to one, and, and it's, it's ironic that game one and game nine were eight to one.

It's, it's very, very ironical to see this.

Um, but before game nine here of their, of their postseason, which kind of fluctuates the, the numbers here a little bit, they allowed 15 goals in eight games.

1.87 goals against per game.

Mm.

Is there a world where you think trading up to get that second overall pick, the first overall, the Leafs will not move, but just moving up to try to get into the top five even makes sense at this point?

I think it d- does, it just depends on what that asking price is.

You know, right now, um, San Jose moved up here from number nine to number two, so now they have number two and number 20 overall, where the Blues have 11 and 15.

It's gonna be very, very difficult I think to be able to get them to agree, because right now they're trying to start really building around, um, Macklin Celebrini, William Misa.

You know, they, they're, they're trying to able to make sure that these young guys are, are getting the proper, um, nurturing environment and, and where they're moving forward here with.

And as we've seen, these guys are already starting to compete.

Um, and so do the Blues have somebody who is NHL ready right now? They don't really have a lot of actual younger players here on their back end outside of Sam Dickinson, and that's a guy who I believe that they want to able to continue to build around here on the back end.

But then you have Jake Neighbours, the young guys moving up that maybe would just be the next captain of this team for the years to come.

But Mike, what do you, what did you think of Kyrou's season? And do you think he can get back to that 70-plus point player we've seen before?

I'm really hoping that we see that rebound here from Jordan Kyrou.

The biggest problem that I, that really sticks out here to me was the lack of effort at times from him, that he just seemed like he was coasting at times.

There was a couple of times in overtime where it just seemed like that he was in, instead of just rushing back and using his speed, that he was just gliding back here into the defensive zone.

It just didn't seem like that when he was putting forth his offensive effort, that it wasn't using all of his skills, all of his tools.

And these are just some of the continued red flags that continue to show up here in some of his play, that maybe a change of scenery would just work better here for him.

For me, if he stays in St. Louis, I think that's gonna be after some really good heart-to-heart conversations here with, with the upper management.

But Mike, what do you think we can expect from the Blues goalies next season? Are we gonna see 50 to 60 start Hofer, or is Binnington gonna make another comeback? What are you, what are we expecting here?

What is your thoughts on just the two separate awards? Because like you said, it almost makes the most sense at the end of the day.

Yeah, absolutely.

And, and right now there's, there's, I don't think been more of a clear redefined, um, area here surrounding the defensemen here within the NHL.

You have so many good defensemen, whether they are offensive or they're defensive.

But, um, the defensemen here in this league are just incredibly dynamic.

And so I think moving forward, if the NHL here would consider it, I think it's long, long overdue to award somebody who is very offensively dynamic here, like a, um, a Moritz Seider, like a Cale Makar, you know, and the list just continues to go on and on.

But for the players who take the name defensive defenseman, stay-at-home defenseman, these guys who just play the very quiet game, block the shots, you know, they, they do the role that's assigned here to them.

Does that almost feel like it shows a glimpse at this guy being a legitimate top four defender, maybe even faster than we expected with him?

But, you know, I feel like they have an opportunity to really make some moves here with those assets.

Absolutely.

And you mentioned the goaltending because that's an interesting part of the conversation there as well, because does Jordan Bennington feel that it's okay for him to take a 1B or just a clearly defined number two role here to Joel Hofer? So that could have a large impact here as far as what they do with these draft picks here as well, because I think there's going to be a number of teams who are interested in a Jordan Bennington, but do they need to potentially package something together? Who would be interested in coming back? And then you just leave yourself vulnerable.

Okay, well, what if Joel Hofer goes down? Holy smokes, now you don't have really anybody.

It's no offense here to Vadim Zarenko, who's playing the number one role here right now in Springfield, but You know, he got a little shell shocked here right now.

And so he's taking a backseat here in the postseason.

So you just don't know what it's going to be like.

But then you have Jake Neighbors, the young guys moving up that maybe would just be the next captain of this team for the years to come.

So is that a type of guy that maybe you look at trading and then Carbono is like taking that spot? Is it too early for that? Do you want him to go to the AHL, take those next next steps, learn how to play the pro game? Because he's very explosive we've seen the highlights right and of course at the end of the day they're just highlights but we've seen the highlights very explosive at the junior level but the game changes you have to figure out the league right so is it too early to you know move that spot or i guess you know trade away a guy like kairu and just expect production like that out of a guy like justin carbineau even though you know he does look very promising

Justin Carbon is very skilled, very, very promising forward.

But like you said, and I think you nailed it, going here from the junior level to the pro level, regardless if it's the NHL or the AHL, it's a learning curve.

And I think that's why we saw forwards here like Jordan Cairo and Theo Linsen and Otto Stenberg.

These guys all take stops here in the AHL, and they've played an extensive amount of games here with them.

So I don't see a single reason why you couldn't see both Justin Carbono and Adam Juracek start their seasons off here in Springfield, get more than a cup of coffee, you know, spend half the season, spend three quarters of the season here in Springfield.

Let Steve Ott really, really get his hands here on them, work with them, get them used to the pro level game, and then maybe elevate them here as the Blues are hopefully contending here for a postseason push.

Do you think it's going to make it easier for Jim Montgomery to maybe call these guys up? Absolutely,
