the good old days and funny enough this is one of my favourite suede stories they'd used the aforementioned melody maker to advertise for personnel to advertise for a drummer and they said kind of influences like you know Kate Bush David Bowie the Smiths And when they auditioned drummers, Mike Joyce from the Smiths walked in the door, of which they went, and he kind of said, I wanted to do this and I think you're an amazing band.

I think it'd be the worst idea if I joined you as, you know, kind of this whole kind of Smiths drummer joins this new band would kind of overtake it.

And he was right.

Anyway, it does mean lots of music to get through on this episode.

And I know I've played them a few times over the shows, but 19 years ago last week, drummer Mike Joyce walked out of the Smiths.

With tensions in the band at an all-time high, it signalled the end for one of the greatest bands ever to come out of Manchester.

Three weeks later, their final album came out, and you are possibly only familiar with the Mark Ronson version of this, but here is the original to kick off episode 22.

And the lawsuit between him and the Smiths drummer, Mike Joyce, is about half the book.

Brilliant.

Is it? And this is what I love about people like this.

Morrissey and Marr complement each other so brilliantly.

Like, an incredible rhythm section that created this really, really, uh, propulsive but not too showy backbeat for these two kind of yin and yang geniuses to sort of interweave each other's idiosyncrasies between the two of them.

Andy Rourke, the bass player, died.

Mike Joyce, I think, is still

alive.
