What under misunderstandings would you say you see holding donors or even nonprofits back from fully engaging with donor advised funds?

Yeah.

I think the biggest one that we always see with people who have never heard the topic is just like, oh, so you're going to tell me where I need to give my money.

Well, why would I partner with you? I want to give where I want to give.

That thought that it's built into the name donor advised, the donor is the only one who can advise where we send the funds.

Certain organizations out there may have certain, whether five-year minimums, well, if they're not granting out in five years, we're going to pick a cause that we want to support.

But more and more, you see donor advised funds, NCF being one of them, will never ever tell you where to give or how to give.

But how can you help donors clarify their values, involve the next generation, and give more intentionally? Right.

I would like to ask you, what are the skills that someone needs to develop? What are the experiences they've got to have early in their careers for someone to eventually become elite at this? Because this is an apex skill.

I think it's simplicity with detail.

For example, if you had no funds at all, no money, and you were to walk in and say, okay, here's your team, and you didn't pick any of those young men or young women or young ladies or children, if you didn't pick any of them at all, you're saying, how can I make this experience a positive one? One thing that you know that if it's a third grader and it's a third grade class or a sixth grade class or even a ninth grade class and it's athletics or specifically in America, we call it basketball.

as opposed to track and field.

But nonetheless, my point is that you bring a box, notebooks, and pencils, if you want to use pens, great.

And from that day, every time that you meet, you know, their name with duct tape is across there.

That conversation in itself is, just moves me forward.

I mean, how difficult was it to get the project to this point?

It was really challenging.

I came into the club from a wise person who brought me in, and one of his goals was to get this system going.

And so it took a lot of discussion internally.

lot of work on the technical aspects of it and then finally I wrote a grant to the ARDC and they gave us a generous amount of money to help finance it so about half of the cost was borne by the club and about half of the cost cost by the grant and of course we had all volunteer engineers and But many of them are exceptionally skilled engineers.

And so we were able to put the system together.

And now we're in the final shakedown, kind of the tweaking of getting

And as I say, in the meanwhile, our routine activities are all kind of secretly building, and I say that tongue in cheek, of course, secretly building our skills so that the things we do day to day can translate almost directly into those emergency kinds of activities.
