don't know.
Mike SingerHOST
20:48
I get myself into trouble with the fans because I'm like, guys, it's not just a Chris Ash and Mike Denbrock thing.
Mike SingerHOST
20:54
There's many other people involved in the Notre Dame football operation than those two guys.
Eric HansenPANELIST
20:59
I think Some fans have the tendency to look at these things as everybody operates in a silo, that there's no collaboration between anybody.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
4:49
The fact that he came out throwing when they needed to possess the football no more.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
4:52
No, I know that it's, there was a huge and even Jack Freeman mentioned off camera, like obviously Notre Dame and Denbrock, they kind of fell for the dangling carrot of our past defense that we're facing sucks.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
5:02
Let's go against Navy.
Tim O'MalleyHOST
5:03
But boy, when you bring in Jonas Walton, you can start mixing things up and you need to possess the football.
Tim PristerHOST
5:30
Absolutely.
Tim PristerHOST
5:30
That's not Mike
Tim O'MalleyHOST
5:31
Denbrock.
Tim PristerHOST
5:32
No, it's not, but I do think that Dan Brock has to shoulder some of the blame of the time of possession.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
7:47
And I think it speaks to the larger anxieties about playing Navy in the first place because you've now got players getting hurt.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
7:53
And Notre Dame, I know a lot of criticism about this game is going to go towards Mike Denbrock because the first half the offense wasn't as efficient as they could have been because they did have the three and out but the other two offensive drives I think were fine and that one three and out was just the worst timed three and out for anyone's mental health of the season and it was not indicative of like oh this offense is going to struggle throughout the rest of the day because Mike the thing about these Navy and Service Academy games for the last you know whatever 10 years since maybe since Marcus Freeman took over I guess you could say is that even if you're worried that the service academies are going to service Academy U. Notre Dame's offense is so good that it should not be a concern because they should be able to score points.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
8:36
Getting one or two stops should be enough, even if they are going to possess the ball for large swaths of the game.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
8:44
It was just a very ill-timed three and out that I think was mostly a player error thing and probably feels better if there's a run in there that chews up a little bit more clock because it's like three incompletions and then they're off the field.

33 MINS LATER

Jessica SmetanaHOST

And I think that When things go wrong for your football team, it is obviously very cliche to be like, this coordinator sucks, this coordinator sucks.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
41:41
And I'm trying not to do that without it being warranted.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
41:46
And I don't feel that way about Mike Denbrock, even though I think he is the subject of many fans' ire for the BYU game.
Jessica SmetanaHOST
41:54
But I do feel like I would like to see Chris Ashe to do some stuff that would make me feel like, okay, you have a handle on things.
Bryan DriskellHOST
5:47
It wasn't a bad performance from the pass offense, but it certainly wasn't a great performance.
Bryan DriskellHOST
5:52
It was very clear that Mike Denbrock wanted to get the pass game going, and it was very clear that Marcus Freeman – told him basically to not do that in the second half because in the second half it was, I mean, most of the throws they had in the first couple of drives, second half were RPOs where CJ was pulling and throwing it.
Vince DeDarioHOST
6:06
Yeah.
Bryan DriskellHOST
6:07
And they weren't necessarily like designed runs, but, um, It's a minus.
speaker_3NARRATOR
44:48
I had to step outside so I don't bother my wife.
speaker_3NARRATOR
44:52
Rank USC, you coward! We have to! Mike Denbrock suffers from like smartest guy in the room syndrome.
speaker_3NARRATOR
44:59
Run the ball.
speaker_3NARRATOR
45:01
Run the freaking ball.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:31
I do not trust Mike Brown.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:35
IK03, I'm convinced it's Deb Brock not trusting young guys.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:39
He doesn't have a history of using them, and I think he's only gotten more stubborn about it.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:42
I don't know that Deb Brock has control over that.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:45
is the thing I don't, he's not in Denver.
Greg FlammangHOST
54:48
Brock's not in charge of, um, who plays when now he couldn't, he could say, I want the guys in for like, I want my top three in for like a two minute drill or something.
Greg FlammangHOST
55:00
Generally speaking, the, the rotation is in charge of the position coach.
Greg FlammangHOST
55:06
Generally, I don't think Bettis playing or Burris playing or Graham playing has any reflection on Den Brock.
Jake CrainHOST
14:03
That's what I was about to talk about.
Jake CrainHOST
14:04
We talk about Shannon Dawson and that Mike Denbrock can do it too now.
Jake CrainHOST
14:09
This ain't his first year in the classroom.
Jake CrainHOST
14:11
He's teaching the damn class at this point.
Bryan DriskellHOST
0:34
There was...
Bryan DriskellHOST
0:36
I know a lot of people were losing their minds and Mike Denbrock this and Mike Denbrock that, and I get it.
Bryan DriskellHOST
0:42
People are mad.
Bryan DriskellHOST
0:44
There are some things about this game that I still want to see some adjustments and some things that I just didn't see what I wanted to see, but I honestly didn't expect I was going to see.
Bryan DriskellHOST
1:52
Just kick things off, just big picture, game plan, execution, whatever you want to do, just big picture before we get into run game, pass game specifics, Trev.
Bryan DriskellHOST
2:01
What were your thoughts on the performance of the Notre Dame offense?
TrevorHOST
2:04
Yeah, I think, unfortunately, there's going to be some areas where Mike Denbrock takes some heat from the Notre Dame fan base for this game, and I don't put that on him.
TrevorHOST
2:12
And I've been a big critique of Mike Denbrock over the past week about needing to get more creative and getting better situationally.
Bryan DriskellHOST
7:49
He better be very involved and very demanding about what happens on the defensive side of the ball.
Bryan DriskellHOST
7:55
Leave Mike Denbrock the F alone from now until Saturday night or Sunday morning at like 1 o'clock in the morning.
Bryan DriskellHOST
8:03
Your focus needs to be on Chris Ashe and Chris Ashe only for the next seven days.
TrevorHOST
8:11
One thing I do think that we saw in this game that I got glossed over in a lot of the hoopla of what this postgame show was, a lot of fun hoopla.
TrevorHOST
8:33
Yep.
TrevorHOST
8:34
and that was a concern that I had after the BYU game.
TrevorHOST
8:37
It's like, okay, just the next time they face a top opponent, are they going to just knock their heads on the wall and just hope the defense gets all the stops and the offense plays ball control? I think Mike Denbrock was fully prepared today to go out and win this football game by any means necessary, and that is a very promising sign moving forward.
Bryan DriskellHOST
8:54
We'll need that next week as well.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:45
It is 100% negligent, but it's being allowed to happen.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:49
It's one thing if, like, okay, Mike Denbrock's doing a terrible job on offense and Marcus Freeman's not stepping in to fix it.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:58
He's a defensive coach.
Bryan DriskellHOST
22:59
I don't know what answers he's going to find.
