[upbeat music] Energy is a key election issue, and with campaigning officially underway, we've started hearing what the parties have planned to tackle our energy challenges.

But is it enough? Today on The Front Page, Mike Casey from Rewiring Aotearoa has a challenge of his own for our politicians: think bigger, be bolder, because he says the stakes for our energy future and economy couldn't be higher.

You took part in the Future of New Zealand Debate last night.

That's kind of what the costs are looking like at the household level.

But generally now we're at a point where, you know, the p- the value of the power that you can generate is worth so much more than that, and that's a really good reason to stay connected.

And that's probably a good, good way to end there, Mike Casey, on a one-man crusade [laughs] to try and save everyone's power bills.

I would like to say one-man crusade.

Yes, the self-sufficiency aspect of it.

So did Mike Casey from down this way, down the Cromwell way here, did you get a bit of support from his outfit, did you?

Mike ended up in our office at some point in time and sparked off a few other things.

So part of our team co-chairs Electrify Wairarapa as a direct result of Mike coming through.
