If I had acquired Lau, and I had gotten Mason Montgomery and Jake Mangum as throw-ins, and all I gave up in the trade was Mike Burrows, who's having a lousy year in Houston, I'd want Lau here forever.

But then, I'm not Charrington, and he's not a competitive guy, even when it comes to his own reputation.

But Charrington... had won by getting Lau, Mangum, and Montgomery in a three-team deal that saw the Pirates send away only Mike Burrows to Houston.

And Burrows hasn't been great there.

So if you sign Lau, and you've already retained the rights to the other two, it could serve as a consistent reminder of this one really great trade that you made.

He made a terrific trade, and he really did.

Now, a lot of stuff didn't go well.
