Our American economy runs on immigrant labor.

[audience applauding] That's why I will continue to say no to more funding for ICE until there are serious reforms and meaningful oversight.

Now, of course, that's not totally true, but there is a sizable portion of some industries that do run on immigrant labor, illegal and legal, but John, that doesn't mean that it should be like that.

Yeah.

No, listen, uh, and it shouldn't come at the expense of an American's job.

As a result, the industry relies heavily on immigrant workers to keep operations running.

Immigrant labor in High Plains agriculture is not new.

It began with meatpacking plants in the 1980s and shifted towards dairies in the late 1990s as operations migrated from states like California in search of land and resources.

Today, national studies show that immigrants make up over half of all U.S. dairy workers, contributing to 80% of the nation's milk supply.

At 7.30, we'll be joined by Jed Peker, who is a non-binary lesbian and General Secretary of Migrante Australia, which is an alliance of grassroots migrants, organisation of Filipinos and their families.

Jed will be on the show to talk about their newly launched campaign, La Ban Migrante, which is fighting against the exploitation of migrant workers in so-called Australia.

And at 7.45, we'll be joined by Dr Sophie Rudolph, one of the branch community members of the NTEU.

The NTEU Unibail staff will be striking this Thursday as part of their enterprise bargaining that commenced last November.

She discusses the science behind El Nino and what that means for the climate across the globe.

I mean, as work right center, we are, we're an organization that supports everyone.

So both, um, British workers, uh, migrant workers, um, across sectors and industries, those who can't basically afford legal, um, support and legal advice.

however we do have a disproportionately high share of sponsored migrant workers amongst our service users so people who come on work visas to the uk um through legal channels and they are tied to their employer they cannot work for anyone else full-time that is the only employer they can do this for and the right to be in the uk is tied to that employer and And the levels of exploitation of the scheme, because people are tired, have been astronomical.

So this has been reported almost everywhere.
