Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures

Dory, dory.

So when CBS came calling about reviving Mighty Mouse for a new generation, industry people thought it was a joke.

Mighty Mouse, the squeaky clean superhero who'd been saving cats and fighting oil can villains since 1942. the most wholesome character in the Terry Toon stable.

And they wanted Ralph Bakshi, Ralph Bakshi, to bring him back.

But here's what CBS executives understood that the Pearl Clutchers didn't.

Not to corrupt children, please, but to make something that respected them.

His pitch was simple.

Keep Mighty Mouse heroic, but make the world around him weird.

That was a mistake, too.

And yes, after covering the, sorry, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures in August, we are moving on to another very important work of 1987, aren't we, Henry?

Yes, yeah.

The, we, it came up during the Mighty Mouse piece that, uh, the great History Bob did on that one, that that was such a key part, one of the most important American animated shows ever.

We just covered, uh, Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures from the late '80s, so they were doing it even then.

And then I was thinking, I mean, this is a very simple math equation to do, but we've had to wait more time for a new Simpsons movie than Star Wars fans had to wait for a new Star Wars.
