Midwest Radio's Martin Carney is going to be in the studio today to chew the fat with myself, TJ, and who could forget my hearty half-baked friend, Fat Larry.

But Larry, how do? Well, surprise, surprise, TJ.

It's fair to say you're not the only man in the studio this evening.

Martin Carney was a part of the first Donegal team in history to win the Ulster title in 1972.

And he was also on the Mayo squad in 1989 when they reached their first All-Ireland after 38 years.

Involved in management at all levels, Martin was a secondary school teacher and principal by trade, but many of you will know him best for his work in the media on the Sunday Game and more recently on Midwest Radio.

We on the May Or Back podcast have been huge fans of Martin for a very long time.

It's very straightforward.

It's like, if you have issues with awareness and visibility, why not go to the counties that don't have anything and try and give them something? And like, you know, Midwest Radio, the guy Stephen Greatest did the commentary, he was there doing it and...

there is this sense of a lot of local media I was talking to, they're like, yeah, there's a gap here.

Of course, this is always going to be a GAA in my county.

I think it was his charisma or something.

And now I'm a little bit biased as well because I did interview him for, I did a small little interview him for a cancer charity with Midwest Radio when I was working there.

And he was so obliging with his time.

And I just thought, you're the busiest man in the country.

In anything.

absolutely and ironically enough Adrian Eames was the first ever voice on Midwest back in 1989 he hosted the very first breakfast show on the very first day back in July 89 so it's a full circle man to go meet in there too but look at this there's loads and then your own place like the likes of Gerry Glennon on Midwest Radio you know the likes of Michael D who was in there before me like these people that you're the voices you grow up listening to like they're they're top level top level guys and like to know them on a personal level and to call them friends now are just incredible

It's nearly like what the saying goes, if you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life.

Yeah, it feels like that at times.
