Several people had already been killed, and although the last few victims had survived, it seemed like whoever was responsible was determined to make sure the next one didn't.

On the night of October 27th, 1919, 35-year-old Mike Pepitone was at home with his wife, Esther, and their six children in Mid-City in New Orleans.

Mike was an Italian American grocer, and like several of the Axeman's earlier victims, he operated a small corner store out of the same building where his family lived.

And that evening, business had been especially good.

All right, let me chill out.

But Bennett, where we are now is in the neighborhood of Mid-City, just off Banks, just off Canal Street.

I thought what shows New Orleans off better than a float den?
