And Mickey Dolenz is still kicking around.

He's still a young man, still doing his

thing.

Now in late 1965, Hollywood television producers Bob Rafelson and Bert Schneider hatched a revolutionary concept, a TV sitcom following the misadventures of an imaginary rock and roll band trying to make it in Los Angeles.

Following an exhaustive casting call that saw over 400 young actors and musicians auditioning for roles, the producers chose actors Davy Jones and Mickey Dolenz, along with folk musicians Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork.

The project was designed to ride the cultural wave of Beatlemania, of course, with music releases synced with weekly broadcasts driving teenagers from their television sets to their nearest record store.

Working at RCA Victor Studios in Hollywood, Boyce and Hart assembled a crack team of session musicians, and they got to work crafting tracks.

Now the goal was simple, get the Monkees on the radio before audiences met them on television.

Now, Mickey Dolenz was tapped to deliver the lead vocal on the debut single, and he was chosen really for his theatrical energy and his expressive range.

But what Boyce and Hart delivered was Last Train to Clarksville.

You know, the fans kind of named them because we, of course, right away, we took this 49 minute piece of audio and cut it down as best we could into the individual tracks.

And the first track on it, we've all called it, Who You Gonna Marry? Well, Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees, of all people, has a new EP called Timeless, where he covers this track.

But we now find out the track is actually named Terry.

So of course, I've got to air it.

A son or grandson that works for him probably alerted him to it.
