So, uh, no, he was totally legitimate, still one of my best friends today.

He was the first one that actually introduced me to songwriting as a career 'cause I didn't know at the time that artists didn't write their songs.

I remember he sent me a track and said, "Hey, this is for Ashlee Simpson," and my first thought was, "Wait, what do you mean it's for Ashlee Simpson?" And so we wrote it, and then in my premature mind was like, "Oh my gosh, she's gonna sing this song.

Like, for sure she's gonna sing this song that I wrote." And then I learned that, you know, you don't even know if she's ever gonna hear it.

It's gotta go through so many different channels.

The part of the song you actually sing along to, and she can come up with that part that sits on top of the track ridiculously fast.

Yeah, I mean, I've gotten really good at freestyling.
