So, uh, it's been a long time really, hasn't it? Uh, and the success mo-- the lack of, of Damien Hardwick at the Gold Coast Suns, uh, Alastair Clarkson, uh, Mickey Malthouse.

I'm trying to think of some of the others in recent times that, uh, the second-time coaches.

Ross Lyon coming back hasn't really worked too well for them, so everyone's looking now for whether Sam Mitchell's the poster boy, uh, right now.

And I think we kind of had that mentality throughout the year, but then it got to the final and it reverted back to, "Oh man, are, are we actually good at footy? Do I know how to kick a footy? Do I know how to do anything?" Like, and there was those melts throughout all the guys who were like your bottom five, your bottom five to 10 that were just like, "Ugh." But then our best players as well, they also melted, so it was just a genuine 24/7 melt.

Well, th- this was Mick Malthouse in the West today.

He said, "La- last week, Hawthorn were totally prepared for the intense, quick, tight, and tough battle that is finals football.

It appeared from a distance that the Dockers played the same old style and were beaten in every facet, including the coaches' box." And it was a bit like that.

You can go back to Malcolm Blight, um, as probably the last time it has been successful.

But it's now littered with coaches that have failed the second time round.

So I think they're gonna go for a untried coach, and they talk about that language of the modern game.

He is clearly a brilliant coach, but is it working at Gold Coast? I don't think so.

Mick Malthouse went to Carlton, failed dismally.

Dennis Pagan went to Carlton, failed.

You know, often it's very rare... that a premiership coach, Lee Matthews did it from Collingwood to Brisbane, and he read the writing on the wall and left a year before his contract was out.

as probably the last time it has been successful.

So I think they're going to go for an untried coach.
