Michalis Charalampidis

Now, that's also a very crucial question that we must start talking about everywhere, not only in Greece, but also among the diaspora, our diaspora communities.

Because since the late nineteen-- is when Michalis Charalampidis, who was the leader of this movement, who actually suggested that the nineteenth of May should become the day of commemoration of this, uh, crime against humanity that was committed against the Greeks by the Young Turks and the Kemalists.

Since 1980, late 1980s, when this movement started, our cultural associations and organizations have been focusing on preserving the memory.

The Pontian Greek identity went through different phases and through different, uh, crises, I would say.
