So maybe we could start off with what made you interested in understanding the role of fungal species?

Well, thanks for having us.

And I think thanks for highlighting fungi, which I think are emerging as important players in the mucosal surfaces and in human health.

So I'm a physician scientist.

And my interest in fungi was derived from after finishing medical school and doing my first research experiences.

Around the time, I would say in the first part of the 2000s, it was pretty clear that patient populations who were susceptible to get fungal disease were emerging, whether through iatrogenic immunosuppression, transplantation.

It looked like a field that was booming, yet we'll understand it.

So she helped us a lot with being able to detect the differences in those different shapes.
