At night you'd sit there and listen to the rats.

And that's why [laughs] in Michael Vey, my Michael Vey series, they feed people to rats.

Right.

'Cause I was terrified I was gonna get eaten by rats, and of course my older brothers told me they were gonna eat me.

Wow.

And a voice just said to me, "Write more." I go, "What?" And on the way out to the road, I came up with the idea for The Walk series.

On the way back, I came up with Michael Vey.
