They've been in that arena.
Pete QuiñonesHOST

Pete QuiñonesHOST
One of the greatest guitar players of all time, and he never gets any love, Michael Shanker.
Pete QuiñonesHOST

Michael BrandvoldHOST
And, you know, it's Michael Schenker.
Michael BrandvoldHOST
I mean, what more do you need to say? I mean, he, th- and this was, this was a discovery, third band discovery, like, opening for somebody, like, I don't know, he might have even opened up for Molly Hatchet on the Beatin' the Odds tour.
Michael BrandvoldHOST
It's like, I knew who Michael Schenker was from the UFO days, but I walked out of there going, "Fuck, I gotta go find some Michael Schenker Group albums now," 'cause he had some amazing solo songs.
Mark CicchiniHOST
I will tell you, if I had to do a Schenker, it would, it would be with UFO.
TylerHOST
He left the band very early on to become a major guitar figure.
TylerHOST
He played in the Michael Schenker Group, of course, and UFO, and then former Motörhead drummer Mikkey Dee actually joined the Scorpions just recently.
TylerHOST
Or I say recently, it was, like, 10 years ago, 2016, but that's fairly recent in the band's history, so.
TylerHOST
Do you guys wanna get to the song review?
DannyHOST
Another band he really loved, well, Schenker obviously.
DannyHOST
So this is the time when I remember it was the first time that Michael Schenker, he'd, he'd split up the original Michael Schenker Group, and he came back with Robin McAuley.
DannyHOST
And he'd got ...
DannyHOST
It's the first time I'd read about him in Kerrang!, and there was an interview, and I was so excited.
Pete QuiñonesHOST
One of the greatest guitar players of all time, and he never gets any love.
Pete QuiñonesHOST
Michael Shanker.
Pete QuiñonesHOST
And Phil Mogg, just mogging people with that hair, right?
Pete QuiñonesHOST
Amazing.
BeckHOST
But then sometimes you just you just give your soul out with the with with the guitar.
TylerGUEST
And I loved Michael Shanker, dude, from UFO.
TylerGUEST
He kind of just got me real into the guitar solo stuff and kind of moved me towards the 80s, early Ozzy, Randy and Jakey Lee, you know, just The Guitar Heroes.
TylerGUEST
That's where it's at.
Scott IanGUEST
Right
Billy CorganHOST
... and seeing Yngwie and, you know, Michael Schenker Group and Judas Priest, I mean, Rush, bands that are legendary in my home community.
Scott IanGUEST
Right.
Billy CorganHOST
The translation, much like I think for you, to metal into alternative is like, it, in my mind it was all kind of the same.
Stephen PearcyGUEST
That was around 1978, 9, something like that.
Stephen PearcyGUEST
And you got Robin, who was this metal guy who loved Hendrix, who loved Michael Shanker.
Stephen PearcyGUEST
And you have Bobby, who comes from literally swing, rock swing, a Beatles fanatic journey, you know.
Stephen PearcyGUEST
And then you have me.
JJHOST
Played you We're Ready.
JJHOST
And before that, celebrating a 45th anniversary, the second Michael Schenker Group album, MSG.
JJHOST
Played you On and On.
JJHOST
And before that, another anniversary album, Dio's overlooked album, Angry Machines.
