they were called silicon and synapse at first then they changed their name to chaos studios and then finally to blizzard because that was the name that gave them the fewest legal troubles and famously the reason it's blizzard is because um there i was at my i think it was mike morhaime their their uh founder like they were having such trouble with names from a like a legal perspective uh that he just like opened up a dictionary and just like started at the beginning it was just like writing down names that seemed cool that could be a uh game studio name and then being like handing that to legal and being like what's wrong with this what's wrong with this what's wrong with this and uh so blizzard which is in the b's so he didn't make it that far was like blizzard's fine and they were like cool blizzard entertainment it is So that's why they're called that.
