parents.

So we went down the very tough IVF path and after many, many years of navigating through that space and, you know, thinking like we tried back in 2014 or 15 and then got crook in 2016, we're just so lucky and so blessed that we didn't fall pregnant during that period of my illness and then...
1:50
And then we find out in 2017 that after many, many rounds and losses and heartache along the way that my wife was pregnant.
2:01
And like it was on TV and everyone was talking about it and it was really wild and it was super exciting and we were delighted to share with the world that this beautiful miracle baby was happening.
2:12
And we were due to have a baby the end of February 2018.
2:15
Wow.
2:18
On the 8th of December 2017, my wife was 29-odd weeks pregnant and she had a lot of back pain.

Brother, from this point, from Haiti, where do you go? What happens? Where's your life sitting at that point?
0:55
So I think we're probably around the 2015 mark now, 2016.
1:01
The orphanage is going really well.
1:03
The kids are just the most amazing humans in the world over there, 44 kids.
1:08
Then the speaking stuff starts to sort of take off.
1:10
People want to hear what I have to say and I was lucky enough to – land this gig and you know I started doing speaking at like small schools and rotary clubs and kids picking their nose and you know no one really want you to be there and you know I walked away like I said in 2010 from the corporate world you know the guaranteed salary to to have this vision and dream of just trying to give back to the world and I really just had to walk with faith.
1:36
I had no idea what the journey was that I was on.
KnucklesHOST
3:05
The last thing you should be focused on is then inadvertently what you're about to say.
KnucklesHOST
3:47
Get attacked by a killer condom or something.
3:48
[laughs] Yeah, exactly.
3:50
Oh, it's definitely not the R-rated channel nowadays.
3:53
But, so that was it.
3:54
That was my dream of wanting to play ball.
3:55
And so I started playing the game that I loved, and by the time I was 12, I, I made the Coffs Harbour team, then the New South Wales team, and one week before we flew out to the national championships, I got really sick and, um, I went into hospital.
4:09
And because of my immune system, I seem to collect everything when I go to hospital.
KnucklesHOST
5:08
Yeah.
KnucklesHOST
3:34
Wow
3:35
... "from the chemo." And it's almost like how often in life does that happen for all of us? Like, yeah, we might have to take a risk, or we might have to sacrifice, or we might have to push through some sort of pain or darkness to get us where we need to be, but it's in those moments that great growth happens.
3:49
And, you know, Mum just...
3:51
You know, she's obviously my inspiration, and she's given me so much courage to continue to fight.
3:55
And, um, so we had nine days on, three days off.
3:57
That was my chemo cycle back in those days.
4:00
Um, and we didn't have the drug that prevented us from vomiting, so as soon as we would be injected with chemo, we would vomit, and then have that for nine days, and then if my white cells were high enough on the ninth day, we were allowed to get the 11-hour train ride back to Coffs Harbour.
KnucklesHOST
5:52
Four years old, yep.
