Michael Bland

Yeah

... um, and, and Michael Bland, a project called Thrush.

Uh-

Yep

Christopher with Funkatopia Live.

Yes, Michael Bland is going to be here this evening.

We are, uh ...

He's running just a little bit behind, but that's perfectly okay.

Oh, wait, hold on a second.

W- we, we, we have a special guest in the house.

Ladies and gentlemen, would you please welcome the mighty, mighty Michael Bland.

[laughs]

That's what a lot of times, you know, we didn't use computer stuff with Prince.

We had Michael Bland playing four-bar loops, John Blackwell, and that was how we synchronized stuff.

But see, we don't got money for weeks and two weeks for a rehearsal to fly everybody out to a common place.

We all live in different parts of the country.

This is Corey Wong by Wolfpack.

Named after new, or for Volpec at the time, collaborative guitarist Corey Wong, who is from Minneapolis, or at least, you know, that's where he grew up, and had previously worked with Prince New Power Generation drummer Michael Bland.

Wolfpack was formed at the dastardly University of Michigan.

That's

Mambo's Combo at Bunkers Sunday nights.

This is like where Michael Bland got hired to join Prince, where so many people came out of, and right now they are cooking.

They sound so great.

And that is the best weekly by a landslide in the world of Twin Cities music.

All these spots you could get in and out for way under 50 bucks.

It's fantastic.

Funny thing about Michael Bland, he's

amazing.

So it's just it was a crazy connection.

Michael Bland.

Oh, Michael Bland.

Interesting, useless information.

I had actually somehow along the way on that first solo record I didn't release, he was one of the names that somehow came up.

Welcome to Funkatopia Live.

That, my man, is Michael Bland, the one and only.

Man, oh my lord.

I just, you know, every single time that I see, you know, these live clips from Prince and whatnot, I think, man, we just... how blessed we frigging were to be able to be, you know, in, in that scenario where we are just, you know, I mean, to be able to see a guy like that, like we were talking about earlier, the modern day Mozart be able to perform multiple times.

But it's good to have you back.

For those who are new to the show, I am your host, Mr. Christopher.

That is my co-host, Mr. Michael Bland.

Yeah.
