Michael Bentine

I think it must have been in the 1970s, so showing my age now.

Michael Bentine, he used to do a show where he would show on TV short silent films for young kids, and it must have been Laurel and Hardy or Charlie Chaplin.

But I don't remember exactly.

I think mine was Harold Lloyd, and it was on Friday nights at tea time on BBC Two, I think.

And I used to love meeting my heroes.

And I met Michael Bentine, you know, who worked on The Goons.

Well, he's worked on some of The Goons.

And I've been a big fan of Spike Milligan, but I'd always liked Michael Bentine because I liked his gentle comedy, his surreal gentleness.

And I met him on a radio show.

He was dying at the time.
