What would you be teaching to middle school and high school students to prepare them for this AI-driven world?

I have other colleagues, America Succeeds, and others who have spent like, you know, a long time articulating all of the durable skills or what I guess we're now rebranding as human skills.

They have a new name every six months.

but I have a lot of colleagues who have thought about the kind of battery of skills.

What I will name as something that I think gets neglected, this is not surprising, is we could call them networking skills, or I think of it as help-seeking skills and mindsets, networking self-efficacy.

One of the reasons that these skills get under-indexed is that oftentimes when you look at how we've come up with what are the skills of the future, we've asked employers.

We're back, Jeff.

And believe it or not, it's season 10 and season 10 together.

So we have a lot to catch up on.

Indeed, and for better or worse, just depending on your perspective, we spent a fair amount of time with each other this summer in D.C. at dinners, future U events in California and New York, working on a variety of projects together.

But even with all that time together, it's left me wanting to ask you a bunch of questions on some of the biggest topics staring down higher ed right now.

Today, I'm excited to welcome Michael Horn to the show.

Michael is a best-selling author, co-founder of the Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation, and a faculty member at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he has spent decades studying disruption in education.

He writes The Future of Education on Substack and hosts several different podcasts, including being the co-host of the Future You podcast.

So Michael, I want to start with your quote back in 2013 that the bottom quarter of colleges would close or merge.

In 2024, I know you did an update, 726 had closed.

So about 15% of the way.
