Mi Shebeirach

And, uh, thank God, being together, the support that came worldwide and from the police and from all communities, from the non-Jewish community around us, the generosity, the kindness, and of course, the heroism of Constable Jeff Smith that, so we all pray for him.

We did a Mi Sheberach for him right away and last night, and after Yom Tov, we, we, we, uh, drew a card- So we try to do good and good things in the world as much as we can, stay together, and I think this is what gives us the energy.

Thank God, since last night, since the end of Yom Kippur, I've been getting messages from the entire Jewish world, South Africa, Argentina, uh, North America, all over, Israel, Europe, with great love and support and understanding.

Of course, a shock.

And maybe by lighting the candles, extra four candles, saved our lives.

You have to believe that.

In the gathering or prayer that we had in the shul before we were taken to the police station, so we had a wonderful moment together saying some of the prayers of Kol Nidre and, uh, singing a lot together, holding hands, and we did some of the, you know, the Mi Sheberachs, Mi Sheberachs for the nation, for Canada, for, for Eretz Yisrael, for the soldiers, and also we made a special Mi Sheberach prayer for the constable who saved our life.

And also last night before we did Ne'ilah, we said the same prayers again for the sick people, those that support them.

And I am constantly adding new names as we support each other through times of challenge.

And we invite you, as Cantor Bortnick mentioned earlier, to share names that we can add to our list, whether for the Mi Shebeirach we say each week, or to the act of, of baking and braiding challah.

And I invite you to contact the clergy office or email, uh, our Caring Committee email address, which is caringcommittee@whctemple.org. Don't worry about remembering that, you'll see it later on.

But we stand together as a community, and we need each other in those moments when our faith is shaken, or at those times when we need that extra strength.

So the first aliyah goes to Rabbi Bender.

And afterwards, he makes a Misheberach, and it says, "Ba virshiitein." And what's a respectable donation? He says, "Pay a dollar." Right? Thank you so much.

They finish the Misheberach, and whoever gets up for sheini, shlishi.

By the time revi'i comes out, and he said, "Ba virshiitein", and everybody followed Rabbi Bender, and they gave me a dollar.

And Rabbi Bender gives a clap on the bimah, and he goes, "Chatasi, avisi, upashati."
