The stuff that it is mostly most well known for.
Red RoosterHOST
36:05
This is before terms like Metroidvania or anything like that ever existed.
Red RoosterHOST
36:10
This is just like a level one.
Red RoosterHOST
36:14
Walk from left to right, beat a boss.
Red RoosterHOST
37:53
um but it is a tough game and as a kid it took me forever to actually complete the game but man oh man once you did it was just kind of this like release of like i did it i did it oh my goodness that was followed up eventually uh in 1987 just the next year castlevania 2 simon's quest for the nes now this was in an era when Nintendo, because Nintendo was like, video games, it was just Nintendo.
Red RoosterHOST
38:25
Sega Master System was out, but was not really a true contender.
Red RoosterHOST
38:30
So a lot of companies were trying to make sequels that were not just direct sequels, copies of the last game they wanted to try and change up the formula right a good example at this in and around the same time was was the Zelda series right you had the Legend of Zelda this top-down view adventure game Zelda 2 was side-scrolling lots of different sort of approaches to how that game very very different kind of games right Castlevania 2 was still a side-scrolling game but it was kind of the early prototype of what we would see from Symphony of the Night later on, right? More of that Metroidvania style, but it was not really a Metroidvania.
Red RoosterHOST
39:08
It was just this kind of almost like mystery puzzle horror game where you would be walking around in towns.
GreerHOST
29:18
And that's another thing, a game with a learning curve that just doesn't throw a lot of stuff at you in combat.
GreerHOST
29:23
I'm thinking of like Metroid Dread.
GreerHOST
29:26
I felt like I just had too much thrown at me, although they did give you like a whole stage to practice with it, but I feel like I just didn't retain all the things.
Phil RainHOST
29:35
I think a lot of Metroidvanias fall prey to that, where it's like, did you remember all 42 different moves you've learned throughout the course of this Metroidvania? It's like, no, I don't.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:08
Yeah.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:09
Then we get to that first boss fight and like Psylux, I think, calls in some Metroids and they slap onto that space part.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:16
I'm like, finally, Metroids and Metroid Prime, you know, like that was like my biggest pet peeve with all the games is that they didn't feature Metroids.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:27
And I'm like, yes, actually slap on the Metroids on there and I'm playing the boss and I'm like, Whoa, this is the first boss from Prime 3.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:35
Exactly.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:35
The one on the Valhalla or the Federation ship.
Jack MathewsGUEST
17:59
exact same boss.
Jack MathewsGUEST
18:00
And I'm like, whoa, weird, but cool.
July DiazHOST
37:22
I would like to plug...
July DiazHOST
37:25
You know, I would like to plug Metroid as a series.
July DiazHOST
37:30
Uh...
July DiazHOST
37:31
I think Metroid as a series is like one of the best series of all time.
July DiazHOST
37:36
And there's a new Metroid on the horizon coming out soon as well.
July DiazHOST
37:40
That is sort of a spooky, you know, in tune with the Metroid Dread game that came out a couple years ago.
July DiazHOST
37:49
This new Metroid game is

JasonHOST
89:01

JasonHOST
89:04
And it's got a little Nintendo thing at the bottom.
JasonHOST
89:07

JasonHOST
89:10
