Flash flooding brought on by heavy rains set off road closures, water rescues and commuter rail problems across Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

Metro North and Amtrak say their rail lines to New Haven were experiencing delays and cancellations.

Tweed New Haven Airport also closed its departure terminal due to flooding.

In Westport, Connecticut, emergency responders conducted 13 rescues of people trapped in vehicles by floodwaters.

The service issued flash flood warnings across the region for much of the morning Sunday as rain fell at a rate of one to two inches per hour in places.

Metro North and Amtrak said their rail lines to New Haven, which serve the Norwalk, Bridgeport, and other major Connecticut communities, were experiencing delays and cancellations due to the flooding impacts.

Tweet New Haven Airport also closed its departure terminal due to local flash flooding.

Airport officials in a Facebook post said travelers with flights departing Sunday should not come until further notice.

For my students, they have to shoot within a 100-mile radius.

Uh, and Bethel absolutely falls within that, and we have convenience of access from Metro North Railroad or major highways like I-84.

Subway fare hikes in New York City and with the LIRR and Metro North as they're being floated right now are being impacted by the cost of crude oil going up.

So in a lot of ways, when you, oh, when you want to order packages off Amazon, the shipping and handling is now getting more expensive because it costs more money to fuel those planes.

So crude oil has a lot more of an impact on the political ecosystem as a whole because of the number of things that are being transported using that level grade of fuel.

Metro North are going to be running on a Saturday schedule now on their trains coming out of Grand Central Terminal and the limited service continues otherwise.

Amtrak still with no service on the Northeast Carter and Long Island Railroad limited service out of New York City.

Jersey Transit operating out of Penn Station on load-and-go bases on northeast card to north Jersey coast and midtown direct.

Metro North and LIRR does limited service out of town.

A lot of subway diversions around town as well, especially through lower Manhattan.

And a ferry service available from Pier 11, Wall Street, from West 38th, from East 34th, and from Pier A at Battery Park to New Jersey, Brooklyn, and Queens.

And all the Lower East River bridges and the Battery Tunnel are closed in both directions.

Airports remain closed until midday tomorrow around the country.

And New Jersey Transit has been operating on a load-and-go basis out of Penn Station.
