The time it takes for a space rock, a bolide being its scientific name, to travel through Earth's atmosphere and crash into the ground literally takes only a few seconds.

But what happens to a space rock during this very brief travel time, and how can scientists use this to learn about a specific space rock's origin and the potential damage it could cause if it explodes in midair? Now, a team of researchers from the SETI Institute and NASA Ames Research Center might have shed new light on what happens to space rocks as they blaze through the Earth's atmosphere.

In findings recently published in Meteoritics and Planetary Science, the researchers introduced a step-by-step process regarding what happens to space rocks from the moment they enter the Earth's atmosphere and all the way to ground impact.

The primary motivation behind the study was to fill a long-standing knowledge gap regarding how a space rock's composition influences what happens if it explodes in midair, like the one that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013.

To accomplish this, the researchers analyzed image and video data from 75 meteorite falls regarding several attributes, including entry angle, spin rate, and mass loss.

Yeah, it's like an old one.

And then Meteor destroys the hamburger restaurant.

Oh god, that's so good.

It was ridiculous.

And it's quite possible that because of the need to keep carriers further away, that Air Force and Navy air-to-air missile requirements diverge somewhat, even though, yeah, ultimately there's going to be some commonality, I would imagine.

um sash uh do you want to uh weigh in at all in terms of uh what europe uh i know that europe also is working on this and obviously a meteor was um you know a beyond uh visual range uh you know very fast and and has proven in service to be very good but even european air forces are looking at something with a little bit more range anyway how does this um sort of play in as we're making this investment what Europe is doing simultaneously to get more out of the platforms that it has in service.

Well, I mean, Meteor is, not Meteor was, Meteor's still in production.

And, you know, it's a ramjet missile.

It's got exceptional range.

Actually, not that fast over the whole of the flight envelope, but it retains a huge amount of energy at the... at the end of the flight, which is when it really matters for an air-to-air missile.

But yeah, I mean, there are two European programmes currently disclosed for what comes after Meteor.

There's a French programme apparently called Comet and a British programme called Phase.

What's your Shooting Stars story? How did you fall in love with Shooting Stars? Because for young folks around here, seeing them, um, um, around NPFL, local football, and all of that, it's not common.

So how did you fall in love, uh, with Shooting Stars that you now support them wholeheartedly at the moment?

Well, if I remember really, I think the year was in 2017.

And then last season, I joined the fans TV, and that has just been the journey from listening to radio, then coming to the stadium myself then as an undergraduate.

Then I started picking one or two extra people with me to come to the stadium.

So basically, it's been a story of, uh, proximity because I've been in Ibadan all my life and, uh, also the fact that the club has a lot of rich history to see-

I'm also thinking about, like, Spectacular Spider-Man as someone who's gonna displace a ton of em- enemy models, plus move across the table.

Um, as I mentioned earlier, we were playing on Meteors, so a central, um, pay to flip, uh, which Onslaught really wants to be able to reach out and touch multiple points on the table and enemy models.

Does not want to be playing on a very spread out secure because, you know, although he can spend five to teleport himself, it's gonna be too hard to, to chase down enemy models and stop them from scoring.

Something more central, um, is gonna be helpful.

And to that end, I think maybe you need a secondary affiliation in your roster in case you end up on kind of a spread out secure.

It's gonna be way difficult for Onslaught to keep up with other teams.

Um, and because we were playing Meteors and I was rolling skulls, my models were dazing themselves, and Onslaught was not getting the power.

In addition to that, Onslaught, for the entirety of the game, was judged, so he was not getting power and was getting, uh, damage from attacks.

Last month we were both at Outlook having the time of our lives and enjoying the Code 9 and DJ Spin set that was on the beach.

It was a beautiful, beautiful night and we happened to look at the sky at the same time and see a shooting star.
