Metanoia

What's that mean? A change? Right, that's a good definition.

Metanoia is the word the New Testament uses when it's talking about that repentance which leads to salvation.

That sort of wholehearted change of attitude.

There's another word which is also translated repentance, metamelomai.

That's the change of mind when you're going to do something but you thought, no, I won't do it that way, I'll do it this way.

Nothing to do with salvation.

Metanoia is repentance, or rather it's salvation type repentance.

Metamelemy is changing your mind.

Meta means beyond, nous means mind.

Metanoia means go beyond the mind you have.

Change your way of thinking and seeing.

And I suggest change the fundamental attitude of your life.

But, um, in Gnostic system that we, uh, there is the metanoia.

I don't know if you heard this word before.

Metanoia.

I have, but, uh, like in Bible college I heard it.

Yeah.

Which is what is the course is based off.

Right.

Metanoia, a change of perception, and this is the miracle.

Think about the Greek word for repentance.

It's metanoia.

Metanoia.

Right.

And it means a fundamental change of mind and heart, like an internal shift.

It means that we are preoccupied with the goods of the body that we might lose.

Metanoia means you move to a deeper place.

Okay, that's really what I said last week.

I bring it up again because, in many ways, the teaching today is making the same point, but using kind of a different approach or a different image.
