Meta had already come out and said they were launching a new headset with the XR2 Gen 2 chip in it.
EricHOST
35:31
The XR Elite launched with the XR1 chip in it that was in the Quest 2.
EricHOST
35:40
Um, you know, and look, I mean, that XR elite from, from, uh, from, from HTC was a good headset.
EricHOST
35:47
It just launched way too late in the life cycle and had old hardware in it.
Gabriele RomagnoliHOST
1:00
believable behavior alone does not build a sustainable game.
Gabriele RomagnoliHOST
1:03
So we look at how the team refined onboarding, improved retention, and finally unlocked a revenue stream on a Quest store thanks
Wendelin ReichGUEST

to a new pad.
Wendelin ReichGUEST
1:11
Day number one, monetization, quintuple.
Gabriele RomagnoliHOST
2:23
So, Wendelin, can you maybe start explaining us what is Forever Pets at its core?
Wendelin ReichGUEST
2:31
So, Forever Pets is really meant to be an experience that's more than a game.
Wendelin ReichGUEST
2:39
It's currently a game that's out on MetaQuest, but we're going multi-platform and we're also going beyond XR in just a few months.
Wendelin ReichGUEST
2:48
The underlying idea is that we want people everywhere in the world to feel that they can own a pet, a lifelike pet, whether or not they can afford a real one, whether or not they have allergies, whether or not they may travel a lot and cannot really provide care for a real pet.
Matt ShirleyHOST
34:12
But that's good because you know your principles and your boundaries.
Matt ShirleyHOST
34:15
Me and a customer, I didn't close an Oculus Quest 2.
Matt ShirleyHOST
34:18
Somebody wanted me to buy last week over $10.
Matt ShirleyHOST
34:21
um they couldn't get to my number and you know what it didn't matter because we all know that there's another item around the corner that i can go buy and spend that money on and uh yeah i'm with you brother it makes sense
Andy SavageHOST
46:08
so over the top it's fantastic And then a mere, mere two years later, we get Grand Theft Auto San Andreas on the PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360.
Andy SavageHOST
46:22
And then I, pardon me, I think later Mac, Android, iOS, Windows, and then eventually the Oculus Quest 2.
Andy SavageHOST
46:31
So set in San Andreas, which is also LA.
Andy SavageHOST
46:35
Absolute epic radio.
StuHOST
25:36
And the reason for that is that I don't want to buy metagames.
StuHOST
25:40
So I have a Quest 2 and I don't play native metagames on it anymore because I don't really want to engage with them and give them my money.
StuHOST
25:47
But I did use it heavily for PC VR.
StuHOST
25:50
Now, the problem was I ran into problems where it was just lagging out completely and it wasn't working for me so i eventually laid down the green to get some to get a dedicated router for vr and what that does is you just hook it up to your network network put it into like access point mode and you just use it purely for your computer that's going to be sending over the information and the wi-fi used only by your headset and it separates it from the network and you don't, in theory at least, you don't get any interference from anything else.

Today I'm sitting with Horacio Torrendell, founder and CEO of TreeView, an XR studio that has spent the last decade designing and developing constant spatial computing applications for enterprise clients.
Gabriele RomagnoliHOST

TreeView has worked across multiple generations of hardware, from Gear VR and HoloLens to MetaQuest and Apple Vision Pro, surviving repeated cycles of excitement and disappointment, focusing on a very deliberate growth strategy.
Horacio TorrendellGUEST
0:24
I feel like the industry sometimes gets crazy for the upside and for the downside also.
Horacio TorrendellGUEST
0:28
We've been on a slow growth trajectory for the last We discuss what is working right now in enterprise.

29 MINS LATER

Horacio TorrendellGUEST
29:16
Yeah, that's a great question.
Horacio TorrendellGUEST
29:17
One comment before jump here on the previous comment, the surprises that happen when new hardware launches, like I feel like one of the surprises was fitness.
Horacio TorrendellGUEST
29:25
when the MetaQuest 2 launched, no one had envisioned people were going to actually be working out inside of a MetaQuest 2.
Horacio TorrendellGUEST
29:31
So there are surprises, like the market reveals value that initial hypotheses don't have.
Ian HamiltonHOST
12:15
And when I look at the snap specs and I look at the MetaVR glasses, I see a head-to-head competition here of two devices doing almost the same things, but with completely opposite optical architectures.
Ian HamiltonHOST
12:33
And that was true of kind of like Magic Leap 2 against Quest 2.
Ian HamiltonHOST
12:39
Like these things were, it seems like we've been getting lighter and I only see one of them achieving mass market success.
Ian HamiltonHOST
12:49
And it's like one technology is going to win out in my mind over the long term.
Simon CarlessHOST
21:19
No, I think you're right.
Simon CarlessHOST
21:21
I mean, certainly in the case of my Quest 2, I bought it.
Simon CarlessHOST
21:23
I don't know if I was ever super into playing it.
Simon CarlessHOST
21:25
I bought it to check it out, but I did definitely relinquish it to my kid.
Daniel GoodmanPANELIST
15:19
It's a standalone product.
Daniel GoodmanPANELIST
15:20
And the Oculus Quest 2 just got announced.
Daniel GoodmanPANELIST
15:23
You can get your pre-order right now.
Zach BraffHOST
15:24
Well, guys.
Sheikh Shaan Arifin ShimonGUEST
18:26
One thing that your meta is doing, it's bringing down the VR hardware cost still within the consumer range.
Sheikh Shaan Arifin ShimonGUEST
18:33
But if you look at other vr headsets they are still more costly on like the 800 to 2000 spaces right those give you additional hardware cameras being mounted on different side of like the walls and those kind of things but from a consumer point of view you still have a lot of room for improvement so that your cost is still affordable so that general users can use this as not being a cost-per-day thing So I believe with Meta's Quest 2 or Quest 3, they're bringing this closer to the consumer space, but on the general VR space, still a long way to go.
Sheikh Shaan Arifin ShimonGUEST
19:13
Same thing with the smart glasses, good development being done.
Sheikh Shaan Arifin ShimonGUEST
19:16
Google itself is doing a lot of work on both VR and AR glasses, but I do believe that from a hardware standpoint, feature-wise, it's matured.
